According too Facebook Markovic's contract with us will have a 35 million pound release clause in it. That is a concern because if he is going to be as good as people say he will be then all the big clubs like Real and Barca will pay that straight away and get an absolute bargain.
If he turns out to be that good that those types of clubs want to sign him, then Liverpool will do all they can to give him a new contract if they realize this will happen, with an even bigger release clause. Shouldn't be a worry, players can sign new contracts whenever the club offers one, they don't have to run out to be able to re-sign.

Yeah but he would have asked for the release clause, I highly doubt we would of so he obviously has ambitions of playing at a higher level (and good on him) but so he may not sign another contract if he is linked with a move away. Then we are stuck with only 35 million.

Haha dude, if he turns out to be that good that Real and Barca and Bayern want to buy him, then we'll be laughing. He is only 19, I doubt he will be bought by such a club before he turns atleast 23 where he would have signed a new contract by then. Honestly it's a good thing if he turns out that good, as it means we have found a Suarez replacement, made profit on the initial purchase and Rodgers has done great business once again.

Just don't want to get stuck with only 35 million if he becomes the next Messi/Ronaldo as some are suggesting. That's criminal. Hopefully we can get a new contract into him with a higher release clause (I assume a release clause is a requirement for him) before he is being targetted.

“For me, there is no bigger club than Liverpool. The crowd, the people, the stadium and the Kop - that's a feeling that you cannot explain.

“Last season I was at many stadiums and I never saw a stadium like Anfield. My option is to stay here, sign a new contract and fight for my place.”
Haha that's what I want to hear! Love this kid, big things to come from him. No reason why he can't have a breakout season as we saw with Sterling last year.

We should make a £50m bid for Di Maria. If we get rejected so be it.
No need to, he's available for 40 million apparently. Good news is he wants CL football and isn't interested in joining the mancs because of that but what we really need now is another CF to replace Suarez. And that CF should be either Benzema or Griezmann who can be turned into a CF.

Agreed. We don't have Chelsea or Man City money, but we aren't hard up for cash and we have just sold Suarez for £70m. We also offer the attraction of playing an exciting, attacking style of football in a team that is competing in the Champions League.

We should be bidding for the really big names, but it seems that we lack the self-belief to be able to pull it off. From the outside, it seems we sell ourselves short at times.

Rodgers was absolutely raving about Ibe's performance in this game a month or so ago:

I definitely expect him to get a few opportunities this season. Rated extremely highly by the club, still only 18 and probably not at Sterling's level but certainly capable of playing for our first team. Going to be very valuable for us in the future, capable of playing on either wing or as a CF.
It was only Shamrock Rovers but he completely bossed that game. Should have scored two or three and got two assists. He is lightening, just needs to work on his finishing but that takes time at the top level.

I remember when Sterling first came through and he had it all but just couldnt score, now he is banging goals for fun. Ibe has a massive future and I think he will be in and amongst the first team squad next season.

Can't have everything though.. Would you prefer someone like Davies who would do a solid job and have an extra 10m on top of what we have to spend on reshaping our attack in the absence of Suarez.. or spend 20+ on Moreno.. As I've said don't think we need an attacking star in our fullbacks, we have to shore up our defense and get someone solid in. Don't forget we have Enrique still too..

For what it's worth I would be very happy with a player like Moreno coming in, but maybe with the money it'll cost we could use it a bit better..
I completely disagree. Moreno is one of the best young LB's in the world. Even at the 20 million price quoted, that is 10 million cheaper than Shaw and Moreno is every bit as good if not better than Shaw.

Also we dont need solid options at LB. We need stars at LB and RB. Stars in central defense. Stars in midfield. Stars out wide and stars up front. Does Real Madrid, Bayern, City etc have any solid blokes. Sure on the bench or in the reserves. Starting XI's though are all full of star footballers.

Both full back spots are important positions too because we like to get our FB's bombing forward and overlapping to create overloads out wide. We cant be having average players doing that.

We dont need solid. We need stars.

Can anyone see us getting a marquee signing other than Markovic who will cost around 25mil? Would love to target a big name like Reus which seems unlikely so perhaps someone like Griezmann or Koke or Draxler who are all young, already stars with loads of potential.
Ive said this a few times but were not really a club that goes out and buys big names. We often buy at the level below that and turn them into big names. Like we have done in the past with guys like Mascherano, Alonso, Torres, Suarez. Sturridge and Coutinho have the chance to join that group and a player like Markovic could be a player like that too.

We very rarely buy already established big stars like say Di Maria, Reus, Sanchez etc...

So I wouldnt expect a big name this summer either. Just more players like Lallana, Markovic who are on that level just below. Then we turn them into world beaters.

I doubt it. English teams dont often deal in release clauses. Suarez' apparent release clause was the first time ive ever seen a Liverpool player have a release clause.

Avram Grant reckons he is the third best 19 year old he's ever seen play behind Ronaldo and Messi so no pressure :p
Someone tell him that Sterling is now 19.

If anyone says that a young kid is the new Messi/Ronaldo/Zidane/Pele/Drogba/etc, feel free to ignore them. There's a lot of money in footballers and this sort of rhetoric is thrown around every other week.
