More articles including one in the telegraph which is usually reasonably reliable, that we are a big chance of bidding Bony's release clause. About 20m. He is a very good player and has a very good scoring record. Think the fact he is very good with his head has him pigeon holed as a one dimensional target man. As a lot of players who are good with there head are. But I think he is much more than that. Good with his feet, good passer, gets in good spots and a good finisher as well as being excellent with his head.

Only concern I have is that Sturridge plays much better, and it's also better for his morale because he's happy there, as a central forward. Bony is not very interchangeable between central and the wings like we would probably prefer as a partner to Sturridge. So that would be interesting to see how that works.

Haha thanks Cooldude but I think I'll pass on the as(s). :D

Just on him, I'm a bit surprised he wasn't loaned out last season (or this coming season) to an English club. Some players take time to find their feet in England and he might be one of those who take a bit of time to adjust to the game.
Asspass (funny what it becomes when you accentuate the s) is a good footballer, but he is built like a ******* chopstick, could get snapped in half any minute. And having come to England at a mature age, it's gonna be hard for someone like him to make it

When players are so used to slower leagues like Serie A and La Liga and come to England at a mature age, they often struggle to adapt no matter how talented they are. That's why Soldado Shevochenko Morientes and the likes who are clearly class players have failed

7 million down the drain with Aspas, it sucks

Yeah, truth be told, I thought it was a funny signing at the time but given Rodgers seems to have an eye for talent, thought he might be onto something. I guess if you loaned him Sevilla, there might be a clause to buy him after his loan so you can recoup some money on him.

I would have been interested to see him go in the Champions League where playing against some continental opposition, he might have thrived and got some confidence to take back to the league and domestic cups. Ah well, if nothing else mate, at least he had a cool name :D

I hope the days of these dinky 3-9M signings are behind us, rookies aside
There is value to be had if you look in the right places. Don't need to necessarily blow the bank to find quality :)

Great tribute put together by BBC for Alan Hansen to mark his retirement and reflect on his 40 year career as a player/pundit. After Bobby Moore he would have to go down as the best centre back Britain has ever produced, and one of the first of the modern, 'play making' centre backs. He was unbelievably confident on the ball which was so rare for his position in those days. Class act.

620 games for Liverpool (1977-1990)
Liverpool captain (1986-1990)
8 League Titles
3 European Cups
2 FA Cups
4 League Cups
6x PFA Team of the Year (amazingly he was selected in this team the year that he retired, indicating that he was still at the top of his game right up until the end)

Bit of a rumour round up....

Numerous sources saying we have/are about to activate Bony's 20m release clause

A lot of sources says we are still keen to sign Moreno and are looking to tie up an 18m deal

Iago Aspas is set to go on loan to Sevilla, NOT as a part of the Moreno deal

Lazar Markovic has been spotted in Liverpool and will complete his 25m deal today

Last but not least (probably bullshit)- Jay Riley (an LFC journo) who writes for the Echo (fairly trustworthy source) tweeted these tweets overnight

'I know he's meant to have a buyout clause that can't be activated until 2015. But strong whispers that were trying hard for Marco Reus #LFC'
'Like any 'big' signing, its never easy to seal the deal for them. But FSG are trying hard to get one in after the loss of Suarez.'
'I must stress, Im not saying we'l be signing him, before all the dickheads start jumping on it. But the club are trying, theres a difference'
'Anyone who knows me, will tell you that I'll only tweet something if/when I hear it. So save all the shite about me making stuff up. Cheers'

Sky bet have also put us from 14/1 to 4/1 overnight to sign Reus if that means anything.

Please, please, please, please, please let there be some element of truth to the Reus rumour. At least we know were going for a marquee signing!

Is it possible that Liverpool could run a different system next year that eliminates the need for a Suarez type? Play Sturridge up front. Give Sterling and Coutinho a little more reign as attacking players - just let them run at the defence all game with less midfield responsibility. Put a more defensive midfield line behind them. Get some left and right backs. A world class central defender would be great but not sure if it will happen - maybe Sakho in on the right trajectory?

Coutinho had a great year but really struggled to finish. Is it possible that he could improve this significantly? I remember another Liverpool forward who struggled to finish in his first year or two.

It seems that Courtinho and Sterling in particular are on massive improvement trajectories. Maybe Liverpool already has the answer in attack?

The only thing holding Coutinho back in his finishing

If he isn't such an Andy Townsend with his shooting he would be having 12 goals a season

And Reus would blow my head, absolutely mind blown, but can't see him wanting to come to us

I'd imagine instead of Strurridge and Suarez interchanging on the pitch like last season Sturridge will be more of a lone striker. 4-2-3-1 with Hendo and Gerrard in central mid with probably Sterling CAM and Lallana and Markovic either side. Obviously could change depending on signings. That being said all those attacking players like last season will be given a lot of freedom.

Again, I don't get the whole "but Reus is too good for us!". Why do we sell ourselves so short? What is so unattractive about us? You would think we were Stoke trying to sign Messi. If the club's attitude mirrors that of some of its supporters then we've got not hope of ever truly returning to the top.

We are one of the biggest names in Europe, we can offer Reus more money than he would be on at Dortmund, we can offer Champions League football, we can offer a better, more competitive domestic league than the Bundesliga, we can offer an attacking, exciting style of football under an ambitious young manager, etc.

We should start to show some belief in ourselves.
