Massive failure by FSG not bring in a top class forward with Suarez money. Reus was there for the taking with enough $$$ offered in transfer fees/wages. Balotelli should have been a depth signing.
Don't be silly, Remy and Balotelli were the only strikers available to us in the whole, entire universe!

Brilliant article on Rafas transfers: http://lfcstats.co.uk/rafatransfers.html

On average only had a net spend of £16m per season with the tight arse yanks owning us. Knew what he wanted in regards to youth, bought well and sold high to fund other deals. Imagine the type of players we'd have with Rafa in charge and more money.

Also Paddy Power has 6/1 odds of Rafa being our next manager. He's apparently leaving Napoli to come back to Liverpool to be with his family.

Whoever has a good striker, take all our money

Also with Rafa, not saying he should come in yet, but I'd kill to see him manage us again. Love the man to bits, was treated like a dog at the end last time. And he clearly has still got it, and wins trophies wherever he goes

Rafa did a great job and I wasnt happy to see him go. The Yanks were ruining the club, Rafa was doing everything he could to help us. The only slight I ever have against him is the bizarre infatuation with Gareth Barry and the fall out with Xabi who was world class. Rafa forced him out. But apart from that he was great.

As for taking over from Rodgers. Premature stuff. Rodgers has plenty of credits in the bank yet. No need for talk of replacing the manager.

Does he? I literally havent checked but I was under the assumption he has had a tough time of it since leaving us.

With attracting top class players, it's also about having a well known top class manager who has the ability to draw those players here, or a big name director of football with connections around places to pull the strings

We need one of those, director of football's beginning to appeal to me a lot, seeing as how no one knows how to do transfers properly at the club anyway

Inter aside he won a Europa Cup with the half season he had at Chelsea and a Coppa Italia first season at Italy, a trophy a season still

And Napoli fans love him and his signings for them have been quite good, it's just that their owners are tightasses and I think coz of his family he is refusing a contract extension

I really prefer us buying ONE £30m player instead of spreading it into 3 x £10m of players.
But I don't think the board is allowing BR to do that.

We were also in a position last season though where we had zero depth on our bench ie Moses and Cissokho on loan to make up numbers

Not too sure about "Net" spending, but Brendan Rodgers spent about £10m on average for each player he bought:

His net spend is...

Rodgers' net spend is around the same as Rafa's and he's had 5 transfer windows with us
What Cooldude said. Rodgers net spend is crazy high for no return.

Compare those transfers to Rafas transfers with only a net spend of £16m allowed. I'd take Rafas transfers any day.

Robbie Keane and Aquilani probably were the ones that make people think Rafa was bad in the market when it was exactly the opposite. The squad that took 86 points were assembled with like half or less than half the money of the Mancs who won the league that year

Plus the array of signings he wanted to make that turned out to be superstars but he couldn't make coz he had no money, Dani Alves David Silva Jovetic and the likes being among them

Plus the academy kids coming through right now are all due to Rafa's hard work with restructuring it, the man was a shrewd operator

He would've loved to have 120 mil to spend in one transfer window

He also first gave Coutinho a chance at top level football and let's not forget got Kenny to scout one Luis Suarez in his last year with us

I still don't understand why Robbie Keane was such a bad signing. The poor guy was under a stupid amount of pressure since his first game. Rafa selling him after 6 months was probably one of the more embarrassing moments of that era.

We should've bought Berbatov and not Keane, that was the mistake

Aquilani was a bad one, but the plan was to buy both him and Jovetic, but once Aqua was signed, the rest of the Xabi money magically disappeared and we couldn't sign Jovetic after
