Looks like we'll definitely be getting Benteke one way or another, he is a good player, if we can't get anything outta him it'd be more down to Rodgers than anything else. Can only blame the players for so long

Allen's neither as good nor as bad as people make out. If he was starting every week it'd be concerning but as a back up 5th/6th option in centre midfield absolutely no issue with him.

This performance against City a few months ago comes to mind when I think about what he brings to the side:

Fantastic touch, good in tight spaces and retains the ball better than anyone on our list (useful when trying to close games out), I wouldn't pin my hopes on him to lead us to glory but he's definitely a useful player to have around.

Allen is the PERFECT depth player for Liverpool. We can't have a quality starting 11 and then just a bench of kids.

He's the exact level of quality suitable for our bench, if he were any better he'd leave for another club

I'm not totally against signing Benteke but if it does happen surely Balotelli has to go first. Far too similar to have both in the team at the same time.
And certainly do not think it would be good business to pay what Villa want for Benteke which is 32m. If they do not want to sell for 20-25 million I think we should walk away.

I dunno who else we'd go for if we back away from him, we seem pretty fixated with getting him by all accounts, which allows Villa to grab us by the balls and make us cough up that 32 mil

Getting fixated results in transfers like Lovren, Andy Carroll and what City are doing at the moment with Sterling. You end up paying way overs, the player struggles under the weight of expectation and you end up selling for half the price down the track. If Villa do not want to sell at a reasonable price we should walk away and look at other targets. I cannot see buying Benteke at 32m being a good deal in any way, shape, or form. Personally I would go no higher than 20-22m.

Whilst a decent write up, the way Villa play is because of Benteke, they use his strengths and play that way. So that doesnt mean Benteke will thrive in a new system where he wont be getting onto lumped balls into the box or crosses from the byline.

It wont work. He wont fit the way we play. Ill be annoyed if we buy him.
He can work in a 4-2-3-1 formation as I posted in the Sterling thread. That would be the only way he could fit in though.

Maybe but again it's just a big target man at the top. Plus if we play 4-2-3-1 and Sturridge and Benteke are both fit. Which one are you choosing to lead the line?

32 million to sit on the bench.

We need to spend 30 million on a striker, but on a player capable of playing alongside Sturridge, anywhere across a front three which suits our formations and style better.

Absolutely if that figure is right. Sell sterling pronto for this bloke! PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE FSG!.
It's bullshit but if it wasnt, **** it keep Sterling and just sell Balotelli, Borini, Lambert, Alberto and Coates. Together they should raise the 21 million needed.

Seriously though, a starting point for Lacazette would be 30. Id pay it in a heartbeat. Seems we are going to waste it on Benteke though.

Ah well, FSG/Brendan's problem

For a bunch of owners who bang on about value for money a lot, their transfer track record at our club has been anything but

Does anybody know what is happening with Manquillo?

Half-way through a two-year loan, started off OK but barely got any opportunities as the season progressed. Apparently Benfica want to take him on loan next season. Can they even do that, given that we have a two-year loan agreement with Atletico?

Either way, and particularly in light of the Clyne signing, to me it seems doubtful that his long-term future is with us.

I thought Benfica were looking to buy outright which would mean the loan deal would be cut short. But who knows really. Happy to keep him for another season given the fact that Johnson is gone, Flanno still injured and Gomez is just 18. So Manquillo would be the the obvious back up to Clyne you would think.

Wisdom is around too but no idea what we are doing with him and he is probably a CB by trade really.

Also we havent really discussed Lijnders and O'Driscoll's appointments as new First Team coach and Assistant Manager respectively.

I dont really know much about them. Only what ive read in the last few days. Lijnders is apparently hugely rated.

That's what I was thinking. Like what actual impact would they have on training and the way we play or improving players or tactics on match days.
we've moved back room staff on but in reality the face of our regression is brendan so to most people the impact is **** all unless we recruit a defensive coach
