Injuries seem to be a major consideration, or else we're seeing how 're-sale' considerations allow us to buy 'big' consistently. i.e. We've bought enough big money players that you'd expect two or three of Benteke (32.5), Sturridge (12), Firmino (29), Markovic (19.8) & Lallana (25) to be on the bench if everyone's fit. And then there's still Balo (16) and whatever shirt-seller of a player we're being linked with today.
If we assume the double dynamo (Milner + Hendo) and dynamic duo (Coutino + Firmino) are starters, you've taken up a lot of the teamsheet already. So here are our players by position and ordered by purchase price. I bolded a potential team in a 4-3-3, but given Gomez' showing so far we might be looking at 3 at the back again, which is where Ibe, Lallana and Markovic could get themselves on the pitch more regularly out wide.
Strikers: Benteke - Balotelli - Sturridge - Borini - Origi - Ings - Lambert - Yesil...
AM: Firmino - Lallana - Markovic - Coutinho - Ibe - Texeira - Ojo - Wilson...
M: Henderson - Allen - Can - Milner - Rossiter - Brannagan...
DM: Lucas
CB: Lovren - Sakho - Illori - Skrtel - Toure - Wisdom
FB: Moreno - Clyne - Enrique - Gomez - Flanagan- Kent...
GK: Mignolet - Bogdan - Fulton - Ward
Ings looks a bit of a Kuyt-like player so maybe gets game time thru giving Hendo a rest when the games are coming fast, but it's hard to see him or Origi getting game-time unless they lead the line, given the talent theoretically already be on the bench. Off the back of bugger all viewings, Origi looks like he won't make it, so I guess everyone should be thankful we didn't pay the extra $6M in January. I also didn't like Wisdom at FB, but they're both young.
