Milner is so awesome, such a workhorse.

Origi is showing shades of Balotelli, Wake the kid up.
I agree, his work rate is immense. Him and Henderson are really going to work great together I feel.

Can't wait to see that midfield with Coutinho & Firmino added to it. Benteke is going to some terrific service from them I think.

I am an A league snob but that's because I grew up watching the NSL week in week out and then they decided to end it in favour of the A League. For me the current clubs are soulless franchises that lack the soul the ethnic teams had. Yes I am from a Southern European background so I would be biased in that regard.
That was all that was wrong with the national league before and thank **** it was shelved and thank **** we don't have teams based on ethnic lines anymore. It is a far more inclusive league now.

Seriously, what's going on with Markovic?

Only played limited minutes in the Adelaide game
Players who came on as subs or didn't feature in the main game completed a training/game session for about an hour after the game. Club is just using these games in Aus as training sessions and I wouldn't look into it to much if player x doesn't get many game minutes.

Some good old fashioned ethnic rivalry would be great for the batshit vanilla A-league :D it's inclusive in the same way Wiggly Worms is for the whole family

Looking like we're possibly signing M Gomez to add some more depth in the forwards. Not such a bad thing IMO.

Looks like Rodgers and FSG want to give the Europa League a decent crack this season.

Looks good to me, and especially when we will see 4-5 of these in the starting team regularly
Yeah exactly right. I guess you could have beneke and sturridge as your main forwards and you can then have millner, couhtinio, and firmino up the groud coming forward with ings and lallana off the bench. It's what killed us last year. With Sturridge beinG injured most of last year we were relying on sterling to kick most of our goals when being realistic was never going to happen very well.

From James Pearce's article:

"...On Tuesday Liverpool fly to Malaysia but they will return Down Under in 2017. It's a no brainer – in terms of commercial benefits, the support and the outstanding facilities."

I am hoping they will come to Melbourne again in 2017.

Injuries seem to be a major consideration, or else we're seeing how 're-sale' considerations allow us to buy 'big' consistently. i.e. We've bought enough big money players that you'd expect two or three of Benteke (32.5), Sturridge (12), Firmino (29), Markovic (19.8) & Lallana (25) to be on the bench if everyone's fit. And then there's still Balo (16) and whatever shirt-seller of a player we're being linked with today.

If we assume the double dynamo (Milner + Hendo) and dynamic duo (Coutino + Firmino) are starters, you've taken up a lot of the teamsheet already. So here are our players by position and ordered by purchase price. I bolded a potential team in a 4-3-3, but given Gomez' showing so far we might be looking at 3 at the back again, which is where Ibe, Lallana and Markovic could get themselves on the pitch more regularly out wide.

Strikers: Benteke - Balotelli - Sturridge - Borini - Origi - Ings - Lambert - Yesil...
AM: Firmino - Lallana - Markovic - Coutinho - Ibe - Texeira - Ojo - Wilson...
M: Henderson - Allen - Can - Milner - Rossiter - Brannagan...
DM: Lucas
CB: Lovren - Sakho - Illori - Skrtel - Toure - Wisdom
FB: Moreno - Clyne - Enrique - Gomez - Flanagan- Kent...
GK: Mignolet - Bogdan - Fulton - Ward

Ings looks a bit of a Kuyt-like player so maybe gets game time thru giving Hendo a rest when the games are coming fast, but it's hard to see him or Origi getting game-time unless they lead the line, given the talent theoretically already be on the bench. Off the back of bugger all viewings, Origi looks like he won't make it, so I guess everyone should be thankful we didn't pay the extra $6M in January. I also didn't like Wisdom at FB, but they're both young.

Sterling starts for Man City.

First touch he got booed, stood on the ball and fell over.

He recovered to win a corner, but the bronx cheers were still loud on the replay.

...Then he scores an easy one after the off-side trap fails abysmally.

Yep, was enjoying the boos until he shut everyone up :( Looks dangerous, looks determined to send a message.

Pjanic scores a screamer from 25 yards, after Sterling did some neat footwork to make space in the penalty box and then dived like we always knew he did.

I thought he may have deliberately underplayed in the 2nd half of our season and given he could've been tapped up, the fact he's back to his lively self fits that. Still it was awful defending and other than the long-distance Norwich goal in 13/14 we haven't seen a killer finish from him.

Jordon Ibe vs Adelaide United:

He is looking sharper, stronger and more confident every time I see him. That rare combination of skill, elite speed, strength & balance make him one of those players who are just impossible to defend against when they're up and about. In terms of his physical attributes he reminds me of a typical South American forward - big ass and thick around the core making him extremely difficult to knock off the ball (Suarez/Tevez come to mind).

Would be very surprised if he didn't have a big impact for us this season given his current trajectory, in all the talk about how we're going to fit in all of these big money players in the final third it's easy to forget about this guy but if he continues the way he's going it's going to be incredibly difficult to leave him out.
