How I think we'll line up come gameweek 1 against Stoke City.

4321
-----------Benteke-----------
----Coutinho---- Firmino----
-Can------Milner-----Hendo-
Moreno Skrtel Sakho Clyne- (Moreno/Gomez for that LB spot)
-----------Mignolet-----------

Bench from (Bogden, Toure, Moreno/Gomez, Lallana, ings, Markovic, Allen)
Really starting to get some squad depth there...
Ibe, Origi, Lucas, Lovren, Teixiera, Wisdom, Sinclair, Sturridge, Flanagan, Enrique, Borini, Balotelli, Lambert, Rossiter all not even listed!

Ibe should make the bench ahead of Markovic.

I would also like to see us start to whittle down the squad a bit.

Players like Borini, Lambert and Enrique (and maybe Balotelli) are superfluous now and should be moved on.

I very much doubt that Markovic will be loaned out. He's had a year to acclimatise to life in England and adjust to the demands of the Premier League, and should be expected to start delivering the goods on a more consistent basis.
Where is he going to get the opportunities to do so? Too many ahead of him.

edited for Markovic/Ibe swap.
Centre of the park is still shitting the crap out of me. I am pretty confident in Milner and Henderson but they have to have Lucas behind them, maybe even Allen but SOMEONE has to be there to help them, the defense, the whole team. Can will be good in the centre but he's not to be depended on like he is Lucas, he is far less experienced, to be honest the thought of Can sitting behind Milner and Henderson doesn't make me too comfortable because I don't wasn't to depend on him to break down some of the most brutal counter attacks. I guess it'll have to be a team job again, but look how that ended last season, filling the whole side with mids doesn't compensate for your lack of defensive mids! It doesn't instill any confidence in our defenders either.

I dont mind holding onto Enrique as a back up. He is good enough in that role. And offers experience at the Full Back position. Something we dont have a lot of there.

I agree Borini and Lambert have to go. I'd also loan out Origi again, hes miles off.

Maybe, but he would be consuming some relatively large wages for someone who I can't see getting much of an opportunity. He wasn't brought on the pre-season tour and on the (albeit limited) footage we've seen of Gomez, he looks like he could do a job if required. We are also reportedly interested in Digne from PSG, so if that transfer materialises then I think that would confirm that Enrique is out the door.

Enrique is a sad case, has almost everything needed for a great left back except a functional brain

I can't see us really spending any more money, even though we really really need a midfield "destroyer" so to speak. All those ball players ain't gonna play if they get bashed by the likes of Charlie Adam in every away game

And the lack of real pace outside of Markovic and Ibe in all the forward options is a bit of a worry as well

Well he's still young. He'll get game time at a lower club, unlike here. Why wouldn't you do it? He's still only 21 so it doesn't necessarily mean the end of his LFC career.
90% of the time, a loan is a death knell.

Keep him. Plenty of games to play.

Sturridge and Firmino are pretty quick.

Your lack of faith in Emre is disturbing.

I think Enrique is the best FB we had last year, but he never got played. That has to be for a good reason.

He played some great direct balls to Suarez and could keep a ball and was a beast, physically. He must've clashed with Brodge. Possibly because he still wanted to play direct balls to Suarez. Or because he wouldn't get off his phone.

Can is in a tricky position. He plays so well coming from deep where he knows there aren't players coming from all angles, but he hasn't really shown the fluid speed of attack and defence for central play yet. You'd think while he's learning those extra skills he could be well supported by Milner and Hendo as they have the energy to drop back and/or join attacks if he marauds forward.

My feeling is that we will start conservative with Lucas or Allen in the DM role (Lucas has been very visible on the tour, but I guess he is one of the long-term players that long-term fans would be happy to see). From the look of our signings we will be back to all-out attack, though. Can't wait.

Firmino is quickish but he isn't Sterling

And let's face it, Sturridge might very well not be the same physically if he ever comes back fit. Actually if he comes back fit, sustain it and be the same as before then I'm willing to take up Scientology
