That was like watching a replay of my amateur club play, scrappy, flying tackles and some terrible skill. All in all I was impressed by Ojo, Kent and Tex. Smith played really well and has done himself no harm in the last few weeks. Bogdan is shite and we should have kept Brad Smith if we weren't going to get a better keeper than MIgs.

On another note, Enrique pissed me off in that last 20 minutes. Aside from being horrible, he berated Illori and a couple of others for making poor decisions with their passes then continues on to hoof long balls to Benteke or Ojo when they have two defenders sitting on them. Poor attitude from a senior player, jog on.

Why is it if we want a player we need to piss of another, did anyone notice the lack of players available this week ffs, bring in good players and keep what we have. It's amazing when you bring in a good player how those middle of the road players improve around them.

Keep the injuries off the table for a minute and our squad is bloated as hell, actually

Sturridge/Origi/Ings/Benteke
Markovic/Ibe Coutinho/Firmino Lallana/Milner
Can/Henderson/Lucas/Grujic/Allen
Moreno/Enrique Sakho/Lovren Skrtel/Kolo Clyne/Flanagan

We have spent a **** load of money buying loads of players, a lot of them are on big wages and aren't good enough. It'd be stupid to buy more players without shipping a few out first unless you want everyone to do an Enrique

I agree, the squad seems thin but thats only because we are going through one hell of an injury crisis. If everyone is fit here is a best XI and a second XI.

---------Mignolet
Clyne Skrtel Sakho Moreno
------Can Henderson
Lallana Coutinho Firmino
--------Sturridge

-----------Bogdan
Flanno Toure Lovren B.Smith
--------Lucas Allen
----Markovic Ibe Milner
-------------Ings

Enrique, Randall, Grujic, Wisdom, Alberto, Origi, Gomez, Balotelli, Benteke, Ilori, Tex etc

So our squad is probably right where we want it to be. It just then becomes a domino effect where we bring quality into the squad and the player that gets replaced drops to the second XI and the player they replace there drops to the squad options and so on.

So if we were to bring in Gotze, he goes into the first team, Lallana drops into the second XI and probably Milner drops into the squad spot. We bring in say Subotic and he takes Skrtel's place, Skrtel drops to second XI and Toure drops to squad. Etc etc...

Of course many will be shipped out. Luis Alberto, Enrique, Balotelli, Toure, Bogdan are just five players who I think will be gone at the start of next season. So for the sake of the exercise, it would look like this.

---------ter Stegen
Clyne Subotic Sakho Moreno
------Can Henderson
Gotze Coutinho Firmino
--------Sturridge

-----------Mignolet
Flanno Skrtel Lovren B.Smith
--------Lucas Allen
----Markovic Ibe Lallana
-------------Ings

Randall, Milner, Grujic, Wisdom, Origi, Gomez, Benteke, Ilori, Tex.

Of course it's all hypothetical and just an exercise on our squad size. I dont actually think we will get any of ter Stegen, Gotze or Subotic.

I rest my case with Enrique. Fat piece of junk who has phoned in performances for all bar his first 6 months at the club. Hopefully never see him in our shirt again.

Schwarzer would be a better back up than Bogdan. Hell, Kalac would be.

Probably the worst result possible. We now have two games a week until potentially mid March, and absolutely no squad depth to manage it. Just have to hope a few are back in time for Arsenal.

In saying that I thought they did quite well to get anything out of it given the side we played and some blokes would have been introducing themselves to each other on the team bus. I liked Kent pre-season in Brisbane, he has some chance and Brad Smith looks very promising.

I'd certainly consider trying Smith at LB and Moreno as a LM in a game soon.

He was being played out of position though wasn't he? And his first senior game in over a year?

A large reason I watched was to see Ilori. Unfortunately he was incredibly disappointing. Looked very average and couldn't move at the end.

I really like Brad Smith. Love his energy and competitiveness. I think both Liverpool and Socceroo supporters should be excited by him.

I've seen him a few times and unfortunately I think Randall is very average. Tex looked classy, would like to see him given more opportunities.

I think there's a limit on how many players you can have in the squad.

He made half hearted efforts all game. Exeter players were getting past him with ease.

And re: Ilori the guy looks way too scrawny to play as an EPL CB. Would be bossed by big physical strikers.

did nobody realise how entertaining a football game that was? wasn't anyone else blown away particularly by the first 30 mins? that is exactly what it was like watching our u21s regularly, when the first team struggled and u21s finished second, and like when we'd rest up our first team in a cup tie and people would see these guys and go "whoa these guys have heart lets play them in the Prem instead!!" extremely confident, every one of them, joyous, fast, pass and move footy, they all know where each other is running. when you get multi million dollar players with agendas then you get problems that clash with how the team plays footy. but that'll be fixed as the squad changes.

i don't understand why Bogdan is being slated. we've seen corners go in before and i've never seen the keeper get slated for it. what's the difference between this and any cross goal scored in England the past 5 years? i know there's been at least a couple but can't remember them getting slaughtered..

Yeah, Grimlock nailed it. It's his lack of effort, fitness and care that really annoys me with him, especially given the extreme coin he is apparently on.

Pato feels like one of those utter bust or total boom meme purchases if true.

It'll be a weird second half of the season for sure.
If he's a bust in the next 6 months then we can loan him out like we did with Balotelli.

Ings should be ready at the start of next season. (Origi in a few weeks as well)
