Also one that seems to have slipped attention, Martin Kelly has signed up to a new long term deal

Wonder if Carra's departure coupled with the likely exit of Coates and maybe Skrtel might see Wisdom and Kelly shifted into central roles next year.
Great result. Brilliant young defender who has a long future at the club as a CB/RB (similar to what Ivanovic is doing at Chelsea, I think if he stays injury free he could become as good as Ivanovic too).

it would be good to see wisdom get time at CB. I swear we haven't even seen kelly there before. for the past few years it's usually been two of carragher, skrtel, agger, kyrgiakos/coates. even in early cup/european matches I reckon. researching now, ayala and wilson have played a couple of games between them. i think may remember kelly playing cb in the friendly against grasshopper. we've always aimed to be pretty competitive in all games recently, I guess because we've always had a new manager. we should have mega stability next season in the league and that starts with the defense and a fit and firing lucas. I hope reina stays to complete that.

but the question is do we need a senior replacement for carra? or at least someone to keep skrtel and agger on their toes? or will we give guys like coates and kelly and wilson, wisdom, sama that responsibility to come in and do the job.

maybe give kelly #23 next season. then say 'no pressure but go be a hero'. :p

Kelly played his entire youth career with both Liverpool and England predominantly as a CB. When he was approaching readiness for senior football, it became apparent that we had far too much depth at CB for him to get opportunities in his natural position, but no real quality back up for Glen Johnson at RB. He was then given opportunities in that role and turned in some brilliant performances due to his pace, athleticism and underrated technical ability. Unfortunately he's spent most of his career so far recovering from injuries, but perhaps a shift to CB would lessen the physical demands on his body and help him stay out of the treatment room.

Tonights game begins a run of 5 games in 14 days!
WestBrom (H)Tonight, Zenit(A)Thursday night, Swansea(H) Sunday Night, Zenit(H) Thursday Night, Wigan(A) Sunday Night
With most of those games we should be winning especially if we want to be playing Champions League!!
Tonights game will set the tone for the run i feel...if we can come out and play the way we have been playing against Shity and Arseanal!!

Good to see Steve Clarke saying we are playing "the best football in the league"

We mightn't play the best, but we certainly are up there in terms of attacking football. Pity we can't defend
