We were never going to get 4th ffs, IF we're lucky we might get 6th.
Have you checked the run in for us compared to Everton and Arsenal? 5th/6th is a very realistic target for us this season. I'd say 6th should be the minimum we'd expect at this point. Don't get too caught up in current positions without taking into account what games are still left to play!

For us I'm only really concerned about Spurs, Chelsea and Everton (all of which are at Anfield). Inevitably there'll be 1 or 2 banana skins for us in the other fixtures, but if you have a look at Everton's run in, despite their 6 point lead on us (which could and should be cut down to 3 after tonight's game) they have probably 6 games in there they'd expect to drop points in. Arsenal with their 8 point lead (again, potentially 5 points after tonights game) are probably out of reach at this point, but they've shown enough inconsistency this season to give us hope that 5th isn't out of the question either.

I dont think 4th is completely gone just yet. We play Spurs at Anfield and since Sturridge's arrival we have looked a million times better.

Spurs have still got to play Arsenal at WHL, us at Anfield, Everton at WHL, Chelsea at SB, City at WHL, Stoke at Britannia (always a tough place), so plenty of tough matches for them.

So while it will be tough, it's definitely possible. We have played really good attacking football after Sturridge's arrival so still plenty to play for.

Watch us lose tonight now after ive said all this :D

If it makes any sense, I think we've been playing like a top 4 team since the beginning of December, and our form line certainly supports this. It was just our terrible run of a results at the start of the season as we got used to the new system that have really set us back.

After winning only 3 games and drawing 7 of our first 14, we've gone on to win 6 of the last 10, putting us 4th in the league for form over that period. Looking at the impact Sturridge has had and how strong the team chemistry is at the moment that form line is only likely to continue. Unfortunately though, that target of 4th place is in all likelihood going to be unobtainable this season due to the head start we've given away. However, there's absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be forcing our way into the top 4 next season, particularly with the 1 or 2 top quality additions expected to come in during the summer.

I think most of us would have said at the start of the season that as long as we saw improvement in the squad and an improvement in results on last season that we'd see that as adequate progress and it's looking like that's exactly what we'll get out of this season. There's a buzz and a positivity around Anfield at the moment that we haven't had in a long time, hopefully a strong finish to the season will continue that and give us momentum running into next season.

Thought I was reading this in the Arsenal thread from a few years ago :D
Our whole club is currently being modeled on the arsenal system, the way FSG intends it to. Can't blame them, it is a massive cash cow

Even the way we play is mirroring Arsenal a bit

We are financially as powerful as we've been for decades, the squad is on the up, we really need to be competing for CL very soon

Apparently Sturridge is injured
Unlikely to play according to The Echo. Borini might get an opportunity to start and if he does he really needs to put a shift in. If too much is left to Suarez then I can see the game becoming one of those frustrating park-the-bus style matches.

Id rather start Sterling and Downing either side of Suarez if Sturridge is out. Real blow if he is out, we look hugely dangerous with both him and Suarez running about.

Gayest lineup. Looks like Shelvey's whinge in the press has gotten him a start. How does he fit into a front 3?? Should be Sterling. Much less confident now with Sturridge out.

Getting no real joy in the final third, look marvelous before that though

Shelvey not pulling his weight, get Sterling on for some more pace, or maybe Borini on and play Suarez as no.7

Exactly the same as how we played before getting Sturridge. Shows how pivotal he already his to our side. Hope that Coutinho gets a shot in the 2nd half, he may be able to spark something.
