Going back to the United game, was anyone surprised to see Sturridge take the penalty? I've only ever remembered him taking one where he missed his chance at a hat trick.

Since that miss I've always gotten the sense that Sturridge didn't want a bar of them, wonder if after the shootout loss to City some of the forward leaders were told they need to step up.

Ibe is probably sort of in the grey zone. there are only 3 spots in attack and 1) Sturridge 2) Coutinho 3) Firmino 4) Lallana 5) Origi 6) Ings are ahead of him. whether Benteke stays or goes that's another good forward that will be here too and then Markovic..! he would need a Borini style loan to a 'minnow' if Markovic is around next season.

midfield is hardest for me to analyse because we have good players there and we already signed Grujic who could be great, could be shite. i don't know what Klopp thinks of Allen, he's played fantastically for him but in these super defined roles, could be wizardry to get his fee sparkly. Lucas and Milner definitely have roles to play and obviously Henderson and Can do too but if Allen goes there is really room for an exciting signing. midfield and keeper are THE positions to get a good money good quality signing in, the rest we have the cattle i think. a fullback would be nice but we just spend 12 and 15 or whatever it was on Clyne and Moreno, we have Flano and Smith, that's more than enough from inside the clubs perspective. we have that in most areas i think, except midfield and keeper. in fact we need 2 keepers!

One would hope we're in Europe again next year, along with the rest of the cup games. We'll need to rotate. It seems unlikely that the man who was almost instantly a favourite of the current manager has fallen out of favour so much that he'll have to leave to get a reasonable amount of minutes. This is the manager who expressed his disinterest in loaning players out, too.

Of course Jurgen won't sell Ibe, and he probably won't be loaned out, but at this stage of his career he probably needs to play week in week out to truly develop and with basically 5-6 players ahead of him it's hard to see him getting many starts. Which is why I'm interested to seeing what happens to him

BR also played him there, which is why we know:

:) But given I can remember some of those misses were only by a foot or so, hopefully he can get a few more. He's a smart footballer, so worth having around the squad (like how Flanno is great for the squad, even mid-injury, due to his desire).

Offensive stats update:

View attachment 224769

The numbers may have a typo, from me or from the person doing them (e.g. last time I did this, they had Gomez with a goal instead of an assist and when changing that they deleted the goal without shifting it to assists), but overall they give a good picture.

Other than changes in form or luck (Firm, Lalz and to a lesser extent Milnz), the main thing the update shows is Hendo's injury greatly effecting his numbers (he was averaging a goal/assist every 386min). Tekkers average has only moved out by 9mins.
Where is Clyne too? He has scored two or three goals for us this season.

Jod is right, Firmino was never played upfront for Rodgers. Wingback yes, upfront no. Not that any of it matters to most people

If we get Gotze it'd be Coutinho Firmino Gotze Lallana Milner Ibe Markovic ++++ assuming Sturridge stays fit, gotta be a quite bloated amount of attack options. Wonder what'd happen to Ibe

Gotze would be the right signing, too, as good as it is to see Lallana improve so much lately Gotze would just be better
I dont know if that is too many. I think we should loan out Ibe to a lower Premier League team next season. Get him a ton of minutes. Bring back Markovic and obviously if Gotze comes in which would be amazing.

Firmino, Coutino, Lallana, Gotze, Markovic. Those five are very good to rotate through our AM spots behind hopefully a fully fit Sturrigde.

But yeah as people have said Klopp doesnt like to loan out players so it will be interesting. I wonder if Benteke is sold, if we will even bring in another forward. Ings will be back, Sturridge and Origi and then Firmino can play there.

But i guess that is not what you want. You dont want a kid, a bloke coming back form a season ending knee reco, a permacrock and then a number 10 really being shoehorned into playing up top.

So if Tekkers goes which seems likely then we should bring in another striker.

It's gonna be so interesting to see what happens in the summer.

Ive no idea where Klopp wants to play Milner though, he plays better wide but I know he wants to play central but surely that is Can/Henderson's spots. So yeah I guess Milner gets bumped into the AM pool.

Firmino, Coutinho, Milner, Lallana, Markovic, Gotze. Breaking that up into two groups (obviously we're just spit balling too as Gotze probably wont be arriving) then your first choice three would obviously be Coutinho/Firmino/Gotze in behind Sturridge.

Then Markovic/Lallana/Milner in behind Ings as a your second unit. With form and injuries, plenty of games for everyone to feature in.

What that means for Ibe though and possible opportunities for Ojo is anyones guess.

Also Piotr Zielinski is a big target for us, that's in midfield though. You would think if he does come in with Grujic, that would be all our business done for CM.

I don't think Jurg would play him in a midfield two, he'll definitely be played out wide. God forbid he doesn't play full back
Yeah he cant play in a midfield two. In fact out of the five of them. Lucas, Hendo, Can, Milner and Allen. I only like Henderson and Can in a midfield two. I feel if we play Lucas, Milner or Allen centrally then it has to be in a midfield three.

How's the thought of Grujic and current form Can in midfield. Phwoah. I've just seen Charlie Dixon in action for my team, I don't know how I'm gonna cope with this many beasts in my sport spectating life.

Haha, I know next to nothing about Grujic and have only seen Youtube clips so will have to wait to see him arrive and play to form an opinion. I know he's a big lad though.

Milner as a rotation player's quite good, but dunno how he feels about coming from City where he was a rotation option to Liverpool where he'll be a rotation option again. Don't think he should start 80% of the games

Grujic is a bit of a wildcard, but I'd imagine Jurg wants to buy a better Joe Allen. Remains to be seen whether Zielinski whom I have no idea about would actually provide more than what Joe Allen offers atm

I believe Milner was only ever signed as a utility player but got an extended run because of our horror run with injuries. He's not going to be a starting XI player with everyone fit. I'm sure he realises that.

Rodgers made him vice captain, he was brought in to start
