When he made that cluster**** against West Ham I think about 5 games into the season I was raging. I couldnt believe how shit he was. Then Klopp arrived a while after and transformed him back into a boss CB.
BS. Klopp didn't 'transform' him. He was doing OK, but like a lot of players struggled to find his fit amongst a new team in his first year. Some of us back then were pointing out that he was a scapegoat while people suggested Sakho was 10x better or whatever. Others suggested Skrtel was the problem. Lovren was tacked to Rodgers and so the anti-Rodgers people caned him relentlessly.
And on the whole 'not another English transfer' stuff. I know some people are still saying the squad is a big problem, but half our current best team are these transfers - Studge, Lallana, Clyne, Hendo, Milner, Lovren. Gomez on the bench is a Championship transfer. Ings was missed. Allen will be missed now he's got his injury problems seemingly solved. Kolo will be missed. I still think Tekkers, like Lovren, was given too hard a time considering his per minute return. And of course we already have Grujic and Matip coming in. Zielinski by the sound of it too.
We know Klopp wants a particular type of forward. He often picks Origi over Sturridge. Presumably Mane is the man they've decided has those qualities. If Gotze keeps gets poor reports at the Euros, surely our odds of getting him increase. Chilwell v Hector appears to be far more about Klopp's style of picking players (relying on people he trusts giving him the tip-off).
Much like the difference between winning the second half of Sevilla vs losing it, maybe we shouldn't let one development make us lose our minds over the prospects of the entire club. Negativity from fans, in my opinion, undid Rodgers more than anything else and we don't want that to start under Klopp.
