Milner will be a squad option going forward. Good player to bring on out wide and also useful playing the defensive role on the wing against better teams. Milner will not be a starting XI player unless we sudder another injury crisis.

Mane does actually improve us even though I'm miffed at the money thrown at him, him on the right makes us far more a balanced attack and opens up new possibilities

But with the cost he's coming at, I expect 15 league goals, he is capable of doing it mind

I would rather we keep Benteke than go for Mane, I just don't think he is worth that kind of money. He is a good player but one I wouldn't pay more than 15 million for. I understand it's an easy buy as there's no adjustment period to life/football in England, no issue with work permit, barley missed a game in the past two years etc etc but surely we can buy better elsewhere.

Sick of buying at inflated costs from the same f*cking club every year. Southampton paid 12 million for him 2 years ago, we should be looking at doing the same. I swear our recruiters only have one passport between them all.

Bruh if we keep Benteke I'm gonna burn all my Liverpool memorabilia not really but he's 99% gawn like Max.

Mane actually adds genuine pace to our attacking midfield line and is a goal scorer in the Premier League.

No. It's very clear what I was saying. That people railing against buying from the EPL or 'vanilla' players weren't really being fair. I have no problem keeping all the players you have mentioned. Allen has been great as a squad player, but he unsurprisingly wants first team football so we probably can't afford to keep him just for that. Lallana I think may be the same sort of player, but Klopp clearly likes his hard-work and he has stepped up. If Klopp wants to keep backing him, he can add more goals to his game. He has scored a few. Milner and Hendo have both lost goal-mouth influence by playing further back but both have real quality. I would keep them ahead of the others you have mentioned. I also think you are forgetting how good Ings was looking under Rodgers before his injury.

And BlueBen's idea that people are 'accepting mediocrity' is frankly silly. If we all protest and get FSG kicked out for not getting us the players we want then I think there's a greater chance of us falling further from the top spot than getting closer. Your 'accepting mediocrity' is our 'accepting the existence of big money clubs'. We can compete with all clubs, but there is a lot of big money washing around and statistically and practically that means we will miss out on the top level players until we can make the case on the pitch and make people believe in the 'project'.
I cant agree with any of this.

There is a reason we should be railing against buying form the PL or "vanilla" players because since we have started doing this (late Rafa up until now) we have won precisely dick all. One League Cup which we needed to win on pens against a Championship side I believe.

Joe Allen, Hendo, Milner and Lallana should be squad players. Not starting XI players. Milner came from City where he was a squad player. City have won two league titles and a League Cup off the top of my head in the last few years and made a CL semi. Fine when Milner is a squad player but he is behind better players.

The problem with us is that those guys arent behind better players. All four are honestly fine to be at Liverpool. They are all very good footballers, but not absolute top drawer so they shouldnt be starting games. Henderson is the closest to being a starter.

The reason people use the word "vanilla" is because it sums them up. They are all neat and tidy, work hard, and are all good to very good at what they do. But none of them go above that.

Lallana is really easy on the eye with almost zero end product. You can say Klopp loves his work ethic and technique etc. That's great. But we could find a ton of players out there with similar technique to Lallana and similar engine and ability to work hard but then who also has end product.

Allen the same. Neat, tidy, works hard. We can find so many players who can do that.... and more.

Ings played like 3 or 4 games. Sure he scored a couple of goals but Ings is nothing more than back up. And you cant claim how great he is gonna be off a such a short sample.

I know you're a glass half full kinda guy and usually I try to stay positive too and I dont think our squad is gash or anything but we really need a huge injection of quality.

We have excellent talent like Coutinho, Sturridge, Firmino, Can but it's not enough. Then the squad starts to become really vanilla.

It might sound silly when I say we want to compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid. But it's not silly. We do. We are five time champions of europe. We are the most successful english team in history. Barca, Real, Chelsea, United, City etc have world class all over the pitch. Well not so much United anymore...

You can try to claim we dont have the money to compete with them but thats bullshit. We are the 8th richest club on the planet. We blow huge wads of cash on shite season after season.

We have the money. We just buy so incredibly poor. We should be far better than we are. We gotta stop wasting money on vanilla players. 25 million on Lallana is criminal.

Yeah, we were a bees dick away from winning the league with Glen Johnson, Mignolet, Jon Flanagan, etc in the first XI. There's a lot more to success than just personnel. I think a proper preseason under Klopp, a good run with injuries and our lack of fixture congestion will go a long way. Squad needs a clean out and fresh blood but the starting XI isn't as far away as you'd think.

Milner basically won us the game against arguably the best team in the Europa League and put up 15 assists for the year. Change your tune if his name was Milnerinho and he has an undercut?
You forget that in the same squad as Johnson, Flanno and Migs we also had Suarez, Sterling, Gerrard, Sturridge, Coutinho etc.

We've since lost Suarez, Gerrard and Sterling and Johnson has being replaced by an equal spud in Moreno. Yet we never replaced the other three adequately and still have Mignolet and Flanagan.

I've said many times Milner had a good season but he's not the answer moving forward. He's already old and really only works out wide.

Lucas, Allen & Milner are pretty good squad players to call on. They shouldn't be starting though.

We've got problems if we're relying on any of those 3 for 30 games + per season though.
Yep.

But none of those guys want to be squad players, they all want to play.

Last season, Milner played 45 games, Allen played in 34 and Lucas in 38.

We do have problems. They cant be playing that much if we are to move forward.

I dont mind us going for Mane. He does bring genuine pace to a front three. Firmino and Cout arent super fast. Lallana ... lol. Sturridge truly has lost a step since coming back. Origi is the only one with real pace.

The pricetag is way too high but we dont learn when buying from SouthEnglandhamton.

It's not my money though. So I cant really complain about the price.

What concerns me is his consistency. We dont need another guy who struggles with his consistency, we get that far too much from everyone else. His stats are pretty similar to our other attacking option but he does have upside.

The main problem with it is that surely we can find similar players to Mane overseas at a much cheaper price. Having said all that if Klopp really wants him, I've gotta trust that Klopp will suddenly turn him into a 20 goal season wide forward.

They are squad players. Milner won't be playing 45 games with Henderson fully fit and either Dahoud or Zielinski coming in. Same goes for Allen. Lucas already was playing the squad role when Klopp rested players for EL ties & also filling in at CB.

I read a comment somehwere that he only plays well just before the transfer window opens.

Well

Mane is better than Lallana and he actually fits us unlike Benteke who was always a square peg in the round hole(jod23)

He needs to score 15 and assist 10 with that price tag though, hopefully Jurg gets that outta him

This is true, he plays best when he's on TV
