A oft heard complaint about our team has that the midfield, outside of Coutinho, fails to deliver goals. Here's a guy who can sit behind the front line or wide next to the strikers and still put a goal in every few games. He's gonna be a physical headache for defenses unlike Lallana, Firm, Cout etc and he has a great ability to turn defenders and belt away to latch onto a through ball. Something Cooldude was bemoaning our squad's lack of was pace and the ability to beat defenders with it.

This is the 1) competent wide player and 2) pace & physicality that our offense has been sorely lacking, particularly with Sturridge's absense for large patches of the last 2 seasons.

Mane is ok. But it would be a problem if he is considered to be our major/key signing of the summer.
Read that we couldn't get Gotze so we are going for Mane. Why such a big downgrade? Can't we go for someone in the same class as Gotze?
It's like we couldn't get Sanchez so we went to get Ballotelli. This committee has no backup plan, just downgrade panick buys.
We've also looked at Leroy Sane, Ousmane Dembele, Emre Mor and last window Alex Teixeira, so I don't think it's accurate to say that they had no backup plan. There's clearly a specific skill set they've been looking at since Klopp arrived.

Mane may or may not have been our first choice, but he absolutely fits the mould of the type of attacker we're after so I wouldn't call it a panic buy in the Balotelli mould.

That summer we needed a forward to replace Suarez and despite spending the entire window looking at mobile, skillful, versatile attackers like Sanchez, we ended up empty handed in the final week of the window and at the last minute signing Balotelli who to me was the complete antithesis of the type of forward we should have been signing. That was a panic buy.

Agree with all this. I just trust Klopp to get what he wants - it's just about knowing exactly what he wants and they fit together, it's what a good manger lives and dies by. It's oft said that Ferguson never had a team of champions etc. The guardian Lallana article also referenced Jo Allen as a guy out of favour because Klopp can't really maximise his skill set in his system. The point is that Klopp seems pretty clear on what he wants. My only problem with Mane is the cost - 30 mil is a lot - but it seems to be the way of things now.

He presses very well, that'd be one of the things Jurgen likes about him

He is a wide forward, his record's apparently better playing on the left though, but definitely what we're looking for, price is hugely debatable but whatever. All depends on whether he bangs the goals in

When do we know what's really happening to Sakho?

Coz if UEFA bans him afterall let's buy Subotic who wants out
UEFA are trying to sweep the whole thing under the carpet. The apparent story is Sakho consulted his WADA app before he started using a fat burner. It wasn't listed as a banned item. UEFA are saying the use of it comes under a general field of banned drugs that athletes shouldn't be taking. Hence the charge and subsequent banning followed by electing to not continue the ban. They've got no idea on what to do now.

An Andy Carroll fee does make me shed some tears

Ah well, I think the club just wants to keep trying to break the record transfer fee every summer, extra performance bonus for the transfer guys or something

Add a quality CM and a LB and I'll be happy with our work this summer.
I would have thought Sakho is ahead of Lovren and that Lovren were sort of more like for like. Also Sakho is the only left footer of the three. Also Hendo into the XI.

Or is that not a 'best XI'

Still a chance that he'll get banned though? It just ****s with us if they decide to ban Sakho like a month from now, they should just make their mind up

I still think we should get Subotic regardless however, someone with experience winning stuff is needed

Mane being pretty underrated on here imo, he's an excellent talent and exactly what we lack, albeit a tad inconsistent, but if Klopp can get the best out of him and I think most of us would back him to that, then we will have a very good player on our hands. Don't really understand the grumblings about the price either, he's a very highly rated player with a contract beyond next season, we are going to have to pay big money for him. A chunk of whatever price gets thrown around is likely to be in add-ons regardless, which we will only pay if he turns out to be a success, and if so there is no problem. 30m doesn't get you nearly as much these days, that's pretty clear.

Dahoud would be a fantastic signing and seems to be the one Klopp is really keen on. I doubt Gladbach will want to lose all 3 of their startings CMs in one window though so I can see us having to wait until at least January if not 12 months for that one to get through if we really do want him.

Looks like we just want Chillwell for the LB spot, which would suggest Moreno stays as first choice for now, which is slightly disappointing but I'm willing to give him another chance if Klopp is.

Karius, Matip, Chillwell, Mane and maybe a few other signings would be a pretty decent window for mine, with no Euros this year should have a solid crack at breaking into the top 4 again.
