Need to look and run like Port players.

It is not like it has anything to do with their recruiting, the new coaching regime has been in charge for two drafts and it's only a handful of their players that were recruited in the timeframe that played last night.

They are doing strength and conditioning/fitness right and we are doing it wrong.

Agree with you that yes, we should look and run like Port.....but even they would struggle to get Marty Gleeson looking like Ollie Wines or Hamish Hartlett...recruitment has something to do with it.

We drafted a number of unusually skinny footballers over the last 2-3 years, getting these guys both AFL bodies and running capacity is going to be every challenging. A physique and physical make up that suits the requirements of AFL footy should be at least one part of what the recruitment team look at.

So you're saying that we shouldn't recruit Josh Bootsma?

No reason skinny guys should not be able to run hard. In fact, I would have thought that the trade off is size for running but our guys just lack both. We need to push that much harder this preseason.

Agreed.

The challenge is blending size and running, port have done it well.

I was hoping that he'd end up like Hartlett.

I'm not sure he can carry the weight though.
Lost his athleticism when he put the size on.

Zac Merrett will end up a good blend...naturally strong and runs well. Can see a little Daniel Kerr in him.
