How depressing. Is there any feeling like that. A 1 point loss, oh what a waste yet , for me, I am tempered. Normaly I'd be ripping the wallpaper of the wall, kicking the cat and slamming the door but Im not. Why? Is it that its Melbourne who probably owe us one down here, NO. Is it that our side is starting to resemble a beaten up ute, still trying to do the business but not really in its best condition, NO. I think it was because of Nathan.
It was the moment most of have waited for,the debut, quick leads, the Ablett to Ablett, the goal with the first kick, fair dinkum. It was just so close to a perfect first game. Just like Nostrumdarus one could see flashes, visions of what might be. The side step and the slightly unsure , unselfish pass of which ultimately was wasted, bet you he doesn't do that in another 40 games or so.
Today was painful, probably its start of the end for this year yet I feel it was also the start of something better. This kid has more raw talent than any forward we have played since his old man stood in the square and today for me, was the birth of a better day.Yes it was painful as all birth is but today was the day we can bench mark, it was the day we started build put some buzz back in our game.

Well said. It was a werid feeling when the siren went. I did not feel the usual anger. Maybe, as you say it is because i know we would only be making up the numbers this year or maybe (and more likely) it was because i was lucky enough to witness Nathan play his first game of AFL football.

It was one of the brightest lights i have seen in a geelong jumper in a number of years. As you say, more natural talent than any geelong player since his old man owned Kardinia Park. I would be a very happy man to go and watch Nathan for another 200+ games.

I think we are going to have some good times ahead, i can just imagine in a few seasons when Nathan is sitting in the goal square at fullforward, Little Gaz roving his rare misses and Tom Hawkings running around owning the half forward line. I think we will have a forward line that resembles the current StKilda forward line.

Ablett to Ablett resulting in 2 goals is something that i hope so see alot more in the future and somehow i think it is going to be legendary. Much like the talked about Farmer to Goggin.

Gaz to Nath - BANG.. YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeABLETTT!

Could not be happier with his debut. Just looking forward to seeing him get even better next week.

Does everyone still think that he is not ready? I think he handled it perfectly and his mature body is more than up the AFL.

Well done Nath!

Was absolutely gutted after the game, but it was great to read about the two brothers combining. It's a forerunner for the time to come, I hope! Perhaps being out there in front of a big crowd in a lively atmosphere will give Nath the hunger and enthusiasm he needs to really live up to his talent. Next week could be a real showing for the boy - either way, it'll be great to have the crowd in behind him for the next couple of weeks, as I get the feeling he'll be playing out the year given our current stocks.

nice post turbocat.. if that really comes to pass than this round and this season will recede into a distant memory... but for me I'm not going to count my chickens just yet.. Geelong has made a bitter cynic out of this once wide-eyed optimist

I just realised it's very possible in say 2-3 years we could have Nathan Ablett at full forward, Gary Ablett on the ball, Tom Hawkins at centre half forward, Mark Blake in the ruck, and we will still have Matty Scarlett at full back. The guts of the side all father son selections. May not all happen but quite possible.

Ohh the roar, ohh the cheer, is there anything like a talented forward on fire to inspire one.It was like everything thats old , is new again. A spec mark, authority on the forwardline, holding his ground when he hasnt even yet begun to build his body and the ability to suck oponents to them making it easier for fellow forwards. I know its only his second game but begone doubters and cynics, we have a player that will be here for some time yet and he is seriously good but he is going to get better.
