This is something that really pisses me off. Don't get me wrong, its a terrific cause, but it's nothing more than virtue signaling by the Andrews government.
Scotty, "its simple, get one of these and get a block of land" Oh FFS.

Go buy a block of land and try get a permit for permanent residency for a THOW or even caravan, even if it has compliant water and sewerage.
Forget The Block BS, it's a dead set joke all Australuan state governments and coucils are against small sustainable living.

New Zealand are going through the same issue at the moment with the government big noting themselves for installing pods for the homeless, but refusing permits for THOWs and vans.

You want fix a lot of homelessness, here's what you do for a start and that's raise NewStart so these people can afford rent. The next thing you do is make developers have to build a higher rate of affordable housing (in London 40% of housing/apartments have to be affordable while in Melb it's 5%), and last, the govt should be building more public housing/apartment blocks not dumb publicity stunts like these tiny houses.

Part of the issue will be Federal, State and Local governments all have different agendas. But agree the only way tiny homes will succeed is if they de-regulate the approval system at the moment. Currently if you wanted to build a 30m2 tiny house or a 5 x three bedroom townhouses the amount of planning and permits required are the relatively the same.

Srs? Whenever i think of London you automatically think of it being one of the most expensive cities in the world.

/i know "London tube" tho doesnt mean London- it spreads out alot further.

At the moment theirs only about 280 registered tiny homes in Aust. With all the publicity they get the majority would assume the numbers would be 10 times that.
You can buy for as little as 50k, or make one for 20k, so imagine as you say state governments de- regulate and councils supported individual substainable living the possitive impact it would have on affordable housing for all, and that includes relaxing the regulations for small backyard units/granny flats.

Over in the US theirs a few states that have "rent your backyard" schemes, where the regulations are relaxed and you can rent a section of your backyard for anyone to put a THOW or pod. In Australia that would be awesome, especially for single women in their 50s who make up the largest demographic for people living in THOWs or caravans.

Poor 'ol Scotty is copping it big time on twitter today, with some pretty vile comments for teaming up with the Morrison government for a scheme to increase TAFE and bolster apprenticeships.
Well, it was Morrison who defunded Tafe and saw apprenticeships drop to record lows. So Scott Cam's involvement reeks of just more bullshit and spin from our scumbag PM.

Lol, Kirner shut down the most TAFEs in Victoria, then Howard built the Australian technical colleges then Labor shut many down.

"Scumbag PM" just shows your pathetic bias on the subject.

Just as up show yours.

An 18% fall in trade apprenticeships under the coalition government since 2013 and the destruction of TAFE and VET can’t be fixed with celebrity spin.

I hope you're just as cranky with your leftie buddies in Victoria, especially the Brumby government who created an open market system in 2008, paving the way for an explosion in private providers and rorting.
