This whole "decorated kids bedrooms" thing is, I'm assuming, more a rich ppl thing.

I never remember having a bedroom anything like this when I was a kid. (and nor should I who cares.)
Its dumb, seriously limits your buyers. Youre essentially ruling out anyone but a young family from buying (and how many of them can afford the pricetags).

Its purely for the show and frankly its the shittest week on the block.

Exactly.

As I said a couple of weeks ago, just once I'd love someone aim their house as wealthy childless people - yoga room, a steam room, a spa, a home gym, a bar. I don't need 14 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms, give me the housing equivalent of toys.

They just don't have the cash to do this tho.

They would, they just dont prioritize it.

Ultimately The Block and its houses occupy a slightly weird house pr0n without being house pr0n niche.

If they did 3 bed, 3 bath with some cool shit (steam room, home gym) opposed to 5 bed, 4 bath the cost would be equivalent but it would also limit the market (that sort of shit is 20m houses not 2m).

The Block restricts them tho, in general, re. the rooms they can do.
Yeh thats fair, its not a financial restriction though, they could afford to do it and like nobbyiscool id love it but it would also restrict their market much like the kids bedrooms.

For the most part the houses on the block would suck to live in. Maintenance and cleaning is shit, replacement of any fixtures and fittings would cost an absolute bomb and the houses arent really practical at all.

There was an article in the HS recently about what a poor investment TB properties are.

They take ages to re-sell and a significant number of those sales are at a loss.

Re. the quality tho- you cannot argue about that. Post show they go in and re-do absolutely everything- painting, any building issues/or defects, they really do cover all their bases post filming of the show.
Yeh i think the quality is okay but ultimately some of that shit will fail and fall outside warranty periods.

If your toilet goes and it has an in wall cistern and it costs $20k you as the owner have to replace it at your cost. Thats more what im talking about.

All the bathrooms with finger tiles absolute nightmare to clean etc etc.

I am so over finger tiles its not funny.

Am so glad I don't have them, my bathroom is covered entirely in small square tiles.

Finger tiles don't bother me. Don't love or hate them. I think in a big house, a walk-in pantry is a good idea (for food & storage only), but the whole "Butlers pantry" thing is a bit of a wank. Why do you need sinks, coffee machines, toasters, microwave ovens, dishwashers, ovens, and other crap in your pantry? That's what the kitchen is for. Just overkill. Just more things you have to clean. But a walk-in pantry for food with some storage for stuff you don't use often when you cook (like appliances and pots) is useful.

They just don't have the cash to do this tho.

Why not? My childless, extended family-less Block house doesn't need a fancy guest space - I need one spare room, and it's a shell of a room with an ikea bed, a bedside table, a lamp, and a hook on the back of the door for a towel.

I don't need marble benches in my walk in robe - get rid of the table altogether so I can have a reformer space. I don't need 80k on landscaping - I want some flowers in the front yard and a vegie patch in the backyard next that my spa overlooks. I don't need 4x $25k bathrooms - give me 2 bathrooms, a steam room, and a pool cabana/change room/drying space.

They're million dollar renos, they could do whatever they wanted if the "room of the week" wasn't so rigid.

I DONT KNOW. Jesus, i'm not a producer on the bloody show

What a dumb reply... why even bother?

What you're saying is that yes, they could do whatever they wanted budget-wise.
