Autopsy The Bont, The Bye & The Bathwater - Dogs By Plenty

Large parts of the game our midfield was uncompetitive, shockingly so. This then put our defence under immense strain.
JL will ultimately bear responsibility but I’m putting it on the players. What ever they did to prepare coming of a bye was obviously hopelessly inadequate. We may have lost the game regardless but to come to the game so far off mentally is very concerning.
Agree with what you're saying but for me it was that the Bulldogs were much better prepared for us than we were for them.

Ok I’ve taken one for the team and watched the replay to see where we were done. So far just watched the first half. A couple of observations. Firstly, the dogs were much cleaner with ball in hand and without knowing the numbers I reckon they smashed us in ground ball gets. The importance of just being able to execute your skills is illustrated by the fact that despite Treacy having those 2 terrible misses from dead in front in the 2nd quarter and the Bulldogs being gifted a goal from an absolute BS holding the ball decision against Sharp, with 4 minutes to go we were down by only 15 points. Then Walker burst through the middle from a back half turnover and shanked the ball to Switter who then shanked it to Amiss and the ball dropped just in front of him. If Switter hit Amiss up 25m out as he should have then we would have been 9 points down with 3-4 minutes to go in the half. Instead the bulldogs took the ball down the ground and Bont kicked that one out of his arse against Pearce and Ryan. Then in the remaining time left, Ryan and Clark/Serong stuffed up that kick out and the dogs capitalised and went into half time 28 points. At that point being basically 5 goals down at half time, our teams collective want to do the hard things to get back on the game was deflated and we were run over. That’s when the backs, mids and even the forwards looked terrible. The fact is, in this comp if you are 5% off you get spanked and that’s what happened to us today.

I get that it's never quite as bad as we think but the problem with freo is it's the same shit over and over. We get pumped up a bit by the media, we embarass ourselves, we have a bye, we lose next round, we miss a few easy shots, we shit our pants and lose, we don't dominate clearance, we lose. Every time.

We should honestly think about trading Brayshaw. He's not good ATM and hasn't been for 2 years

I'd argue that his 3 goals were the only ones of his 14 disposals that he didn't turnover.

Banfield definitely wasn’t our worst, but when he totally burnt Sturt 40m out on a 45 degree angle all on his own in the last quarter and choose to kick long to a contest, I couldn’t help thinking he was trying to protect his spot in the team against a potential competitor

What stood out for me today is the bulldogs have a player (Bont) who just takes the team on his back and carries them. It doesn’t lead to a win every time but since Fyfe isn’t peak Fyfe anymore we don’t have one of those guys like the Bont, Cripps, Henry, Petracca and Gawn, Jordan Dawson at the Crows, prime Dusty and Dangerfield and the Daicos boys. Their ability to lift those around them when needed can’t be underestimated

11 pages of autopsy and next to zero criticism of Fyfe. He is a huge part of the problems with our midfield getting smashed and his lack of hunger is clear as day to see.

The biggest indicator holding this team back is its lack of pressure. We are unable to generate contest pressure at a level remotely close to a top 8 side.

Carbon copy of the Eagles game. We could not win contests and when we did have the ball we pretty much just gave it back to them, pretty sure over half their score was from turnover.
Midfield were hopeless and lazy, the dogs made sure Ryan and Clark were held down (just having a man around them..)
Ultimately Bont, Libba and Treloar wanted it more...

Fyfe gives no effort defensively.
Ball watches.
Then when in possession kicks flour bags or gets caught holding the ball.
Meanwhile we have will Brodie getting massive numbers week after week.

One of the reasons we are such a poor tackling side and also I think it was 16th in the league for forward 50 pressure/tackles and so many of our players had no tackles to half time, is the way we set up. You cant tackle someone you are zoning off 10 m.
Even lasts weeks great defensive 50 tackle effort against the Dees wasnt because we were manning up or physically close to our opponents, it was simply because every kick in the Dees defensive 50 went to ground or was fumbled and allowed us the time to close the gap.
Perennial problem, never addressed, like so many of our chronic problems.
Jlo just complained that the Dogs had runners at clearance out wide, yet ours got sucked in to the ball. Only been a problem for 10 years.
I suspect I wont be surprised next week to see Jye Amiss make exactly NO changes to his ridiculous run up and goal kicking prep.

I think Jackson or Tracy could become that player for us

Serong should model himself on Sam mitchell

Brayshaw I’m not sure

We are so young don’t despair. Go to the draft and keep building for some sustained success.

Amiss and Tracey will be deadly
We wont be going hard at the draft, we need more experienced players who can perform consistently.

Chad Warner would slot in there. Arrogant and hard. Just what we need

It Is frustrating the credit aish, fyfe, jom have been getting this season. They are our leaders and I'm just not buying it that they could lead this team to anything. Brayshaw is a sessioned player now and sometime I just feel like everything has been to easy in his life or something. Don't get me started on fatty millionaire.

I can’t emphasise enough how much of a momentum killer those two JT misses were and then the Amiss missed towards the end when we were trying to to mount the most monumental of comebacks.
Deflated the whole team and we coughed up easy goals after all 4 of them.
With the 666 and Stand rules, momentum is a huge factor in how games play out, and our young KPFs cost us immensely this week.

Freo board logic would be - only 10 touches, need more from him, really not good enough
Well I think someone like Freddy does need to get more than 5 or 6 touches a game. The one goal I can probably deal with but that's way below average, even for a player like him who seems to drift out of games for long periods at a time.

You could re-run yesterday 100 times and not once would JT miss those two shots again. He’s absolutely entitled to his mulligan for yesterday.

Amiss’s yips on the other hand..

Classic sign of a mentally weak team

It's infuriating for team that hasn't achieved anything. Sydney get their tyres pumped up every week and they still come out with a hard nose on the field. Whilst they are more talented, it's not about talent it's a mindset.

I reckon when we kicked those 4 goals in the first and looked shit hot, the players all thought they were in for a nice fill-up and weren't prepared to put it all on the line when the stakes were raised.

I am wondering if Fyfe is playing a defensive role at stoppage i.e. putting on blocks for Serong and Young? If not, then you have to drop Fyfe. He's a club champion, but his kicking is not acceptable.

I keep seeing Darcy being a lazy campaigner by walking around the ground. If he's not fit, then **** him off back to Peel. He's too ****ing fat as well, just not good enough. Do these blokes want it or not?
