I hope you took the same stance over Adam Goodes who repeatedly chose to focus on only one half of his ancestral roots and showed a willingness to claim he was a victim of racism in a society which has provided him with enormous power and privilege. Like Gazza, he must understand that such a public stance was bound to cause friction and hurt and he should have been willing to face the consequences. Perhaps all those Gazza haters didn't boo him over his support of Folau, but simply because they hate bald men. Who can read the minds and motivations of thousands of people?
Why, there's no equivalency between inciting hatred online and calling out racism against you like Goodes

I'm more shocked that there are people in this thread who still believe Gary only liked Israel's post because it mentioned that homosexuals go to hell. Surely he didn't like it for any other reason at all. Surely.....

you think they are using the bible or Koran to justify their bigotry?
Yep. If Ablett really truly believed everything the Bible said he would not play on Sunday's (or is it Saturday's), he would not wear mixed fabrics and he would never eat shellfish. The fact he does at least 2 of these things indicates he is picking and choosing the parts of the Bible he likes, and he likes the really bigoted parts of it.

He said that all gay people (and a lot of others) are going to hell and that is an important distinction than just saying they were not going to heaven

Whether you believe in hell or not (I personally don't) does not matter as Folau and Ablett do, and since they do believe in it by posting this, or liking it, they are saying that they want the above groups to go to hell, they want the above groups to go to a place where they will experience unimaginable pain and suffering for eternity.

To me, wanting that for almost anyone is pretty close to evil.
Grow some back bone peeps, im going to hell, your going to hell, who the hell cares. I dont even believe in heaven and hell so il just stay here thanks

No. Gary liked it because of Israel's strong commitment to his faith. If you read Gary's instagram post you would know this. This has nothing to do with homosexuality.

True, but as I said, many sections of many religions still believe and teach homosexuality is a sin. Followers of these faiths may not express it in the public domain, but the view is still there.
The view is there, but it is already a minority view and increasingly so. Most polls of attitudes toward sexuality generally put social acceptance (or at least professed statements therein) of LGBTQ people at around 2/3rds of society.

So does that mean Gary has liked all of Israel's religious tweets that are not filled with bigotry and hatred? I am guessing he has since you say it is just about faith.

I didn't say it. He did. Besides you don't know what Gary thinks so you can't assume that he is homophobic based on him liking someone else's post which mentions homosexuals. Only Gary know's his position on homosexuals. There are plenty of Christians out there who widely accept homosexuals.

They dont want these people to go to hell, they believe it will be the consequences of this behaviour if it doesnt change. That is miles apart. Izzy would want people to change, not suffer.

PS I dont share his view, but I am religious. In my view Izzy isnt encouraging discriminating against gays, he's saying the behaviour, amongst many others, is not consistent with an eternity in the heaven he believes in

I wonder if the same thing would happen to Matthew Kennedy if anyone knew what he looked like. I like to think it would.
He's the former 1st Round draft pick with the Lego hair who has treaded water (attempting to walk on it like old mate Jesus, perhaps?) for a couple of years at Carlton.

You can boo and cheer whomever you like - as long as you don't use any offensive language or slurs that are racist, sexist, homophobic or religious.
People will boo great players - i'll always respect them for being great and potential match winners but will gladly BOO them.

Loved booing Dunstall, Buckley, Diesel, Schwarz, Carey etc. in the 90s.
These days D.Beams, GAJ, Tex, Buddy, Dusty will be proudly BOO'ed by me.

We should all be accepting of drunks, adulterers, liars ,fornicators ,thieves ,atheists and idolators then
Only one on that list is a crime. Also being part of a football club is not a good place to be if you want to avoid drunks, adulterers, liars, fornicators and atheists.

true, there is definitely a shift in attitudes from religions towards homosexuality. However, I dont believe those who remain more traditional are doing so because they want to be bigots. Life-long religious beliefs won't change overnight for some people

You atheists and homosexuals are one in the same with the above? You don't see how they're different?
You people continue to be blinded by one word in what he wrote open your eyes and read the whole thing its all about his religion i dont believe in it but why hate on someone for their beliefs if you believe they are wrong doesnt mean your right.
