This issue will grow legs so thought I’d start a thread.

Did you boo or did you restrain yourself? Why/why not?

I’m not a ‘booer’ as a rule but I wasn’t sure how to express my annoyance as the siren went. I wanted to let those officiating know that their performance was substandard. But I restrained myself when the presentations started. I reckon there is a real lack of insight from supporters to amp it up when Pendles got the medal. It’s an emotional game and this stuff will inevitably surface but in a calmer reflective hindsight I’m sure many would see their booing as highly disrespectful on such a privileged stage.

There’s no doubt that if the umpiring weren’t a factor there would’ve been next to no booing. I think this is something that the general public should take into account... but probably won’t...

I'd boo if it was Ablett.

I booed. Loud and proud from final siren until Nafan Bloodwiping Buckley got done with his hypocritical moralising.
Buckley was on the front bar show and said he wished he'd worded it better. You should cheer your team and not boo anyone because its negative. Tweaked my memory that I'm pretty certain he said something similar about us getting booed during the saga. I don't think it's fair to label him a hypocrite.

Wow just saw the Penedlebury "incident" again. He bent down to pick up the ball and was whacked in the head. Free every time. Anyone booing for that is a deadset fool.

The other two main debated frees both ended up going to Essendon anyway, one directly kicked to them for a mark and the other after a point was scored. They hardly had a big impact. Unlike the soft frees that resulted in Essendon goals. I'll give you at least one of the highs to AMT. In the one I've just seen he did collapse at the knees but I think it should have been paid. The Baguley and Gwelfie frees that resulted in goals definitely should not have been. Baguley grabbed hold of Langdon's jumper first and never let go, Grundy did everything not to get into Gwelfie's back. Swings and roundabouts.

Verdict: Essendon fans salt over umpiring is unwarranted.

It doesn't need to be forceful mate. Any contact to the head when a player is picking up the ball is a free. The Bombers player clearly moves forward and makes contact. It's a free and no simulation about it. You're allowed to bend over to pick up the footy. I see nothing controversial about this one. Definitely others that were, eg. those not paid against Crisp or Stevo or not paid to AMT, as well as those paid to Bags and Gwelfie.

The footage shows him ducking his head further as he picks the ball up. Exactly what the umps were told not to pay to stop players leading with their heads. Pretty obvious he put his head down to instigate high contact.

That's fine mate. Yes it's a free.

But the umpire's didn't blow the free because of the incident. They blew it because of his flop reaction.

That's the real issue...

And I'm sorry. We weren't booing him. We were still venting from the umpires in those last few minutes.

Stop pushing this media headline. It's totally misleading.

I suppose we’ll see players tucking their heads in and charging at moving players now to draw free kicks. Obviously a new precedent has been set, despite the fact that ducking your head has always, for as long as I can remember, been considered fair game in a tackle.

**** this result. It was a dirty, rotten fix that I didn’t have the right to ignore.

As far as I’m concerned, being a supporter of any sports team means not caring what others outside your borders think. I don’t pay hundreds of dollars in membership and invest untold amounts of mental anguish into this club every year to have to worry about the fee-fees of our enemies. Besides, I seriously doubt Scotty’s at home with his ill-gotten medal around his neck crying his poor little eyes out because some people made a noise.

Apologise? Miss me with that shit. I’ll apologise when the AFL and their attack dog umpires apologise to us, admit their cheating and declare the match no result. Until then, they can go to hell.
😂

******* love this.

People like this carry our club.
