Sadly the comedy side of The Bounce is shocking.

Helliar is terrible as host. The show would instantly improve without him,

The taxi scene was stupid - surprised Peter Rowsthorn has agreed to play that role (would have been better off playing Brett from Kath and Kim). Are You Smarter Than a Footballer was cringeworthy (especially the answer to the question about the next line in the Port song - that was so rehearsed).

The footy analysis is tough this week because only the Richmond v Carlton game has official lists out yet. However, I don't mind Lethal's/Richo's analysis.

All up, it's average - 4/10

Agree, Sidebottom skit was funny. Less is more sometimes, trying to fit too much into it. They will hopefully work out the things that worked, and what didn't, and scale it back a bit.

The problem is Peter Helliar is a "side-kick" not a host.

He's the one that chips in with a witty remark every 10 mins or so - he should never be a host.

The best "Footy Show" host IMO was Eddie back in the early days of TFS. He played the serious role and let Sam and Trev do the funny stuff on the side.

The "funny guy" is not meant to be the one who drives it.

I'm surprised the idiots at Network 7 have yet to figure this out after god knows how many years of broadcasting.

Another thing I dislike about channel 7 is that over the last 20 or so years they've covered the footy on-and-off, they've not once updated their graphics (e.g. when showing teams, and the general intro graphics that display the title of the show)...

Really grinds my gears....

Not sure what drugs they supplied the audience with, they seemed to be laughing the entire show for no apparent reason. It's almost like a family friendly version of the footy show (ie no decent football talk and a few bad sketches and jokes).

So wanted this to be good because another footy show on tv can't hurt.... But this really sucked. The show was uncomfortable viewing. Hellier is good as a special comments man, not a host. When the show was serious it was fine, but the gags were cringeworthy. I agree 7's graphics are dated and tacky.

I was thinking after viewing, which 7 personality would be a better host? I couldn't think of one. I reckon they would axe the show before replacing the host anyway.

All that said and done, I'd prob still watch it anyway if in front of the box. Won't be rushing home for it though.

I thought the show was quite good.

Helliar was given quite alot of responsibilty carrying the show and looked very comfortable doing so.

The footy talk was very good with Matthews and Richardson interacting well and the new talent on the show made solid debuts.

They crammed alot into a 70 minute slot, but felt the players they had on were a little underutilised.

7.5 out of 10.

Of the six or so minutes I watched, this was easily the worst part. No, wait, the part about the guy who has an imaginary disease which means face paint sticks to him. No, wait, Helliar cutting in front of Cooney at every opportunity. No, wait, the Burger Ring jokes which aren't funny anymore.

They were overdoing it a bit at times and some of the sketches didn't really work as planned, but hey, the 'funny side' of it was far better than the footy show and the 'footy side' interesting to watch with Matthews and Richo (with Helliar taking a moderator role onlyd not being a smart arse clown a la Newman).

Not quite there yet, but it'll get better.

Yeah, I thought so too. I was a bit worried that this show was going to be 99% "comedy" so the 15% commentary was a bonus as far as I'm concerned. They need to do more of it, Helliar included.

I thought the show was alright for what it is - more cheap entertainment. 6-10 and I'll watch again next week, if only to see Lethal grin the house down.
