Wow, this thread has turned out for the better, hasn't it?

Back on topic, the statue is as awful as GC's proposed theme song. Thank goodness those two won't be approved.

it doesnt even look like him. the origional. just take a pick of the 1300th goal and they will get something out that

Question is does Plugger deserve a statute at the SCG after only 5 seasons (95-99) with the swans? 2002 doesn't count as far as I'm concerned and 1997 was only 1/2 a season anyway.

Given that the majority of sport played at the SCG has been cricket and league followed by union, and given who deserves a statute from those sports, if they are going to have a statute of a swans player I would have gone for Paul Kelly. He's the bloke that was there for over a decade, thru good times and atrocious times and the one usually responsible for Lockett ending up with the ball.

Given the sculptor isn't going to change the statute, the correct situation might be redressed and a statute of Kelly made, and displayed at the SCG first.

Or if it's such a bad likeness of Plugger, just leave it as is, and say's it's Paul Kelly. ;)

You are a goose, since when does an artist's rendering of a subject have to be a perfect likeness. This sculpture looks as much like Lockett as Barassi's and Whitten's look like them.

Did I say anywhere that I thought Barassi's and Whitton's where exact likeness's or even good likeness's?

I am commenting on the Lockett bronze.
It is supposed to be a bronze statue of Tony Lockett the footballer not an interpretive piece of the artists choosing.

I stand by my assessment and not only that so do a lot of other members of the public and surprisingly enough so do the clowns who commissioned it.
I am sure they would not be complaining if they commissioned a friggin Picasso knockoff.

Now who looks like a goose? Tonk.....aptly named.

There is arguements for both. Plugger is the only Swan EVER to sell out the SCG all by himself. He got the AFL goal kicking record in Red and White infront of 42,000 Swans supporters at the SCG.

paul keely really should get a statue ahead of plugger really, helly was at the club through it really bad times and its good times. plugger was great for the club. but the true sydney swan icon is paul kelly. captain courages.

thats just my opinion

Get both. Lockett facing one way, arms outstretched, frozen in a lead, Kelly 30 metres away, facing Lockett, in the middle of his kicking action. A perfect snapshot of both champions playing in tandem!

But Kelly should get one before Lockett, I agree. Not that Lockett doesn't have a very strong claim, I just think Kelly, being a born and bred NSWman and Swans player, deserves the SCG recognition more.

this is a big disgrace when i herd i was furious, im only 17 and i use to watch plugger all the time when he played in the 90's i even watched when he kicked 1300 goals.

the best goal kicker in VFL/AFL history cant be honoured so whats the point even designing it, yea he should of had it porperly done but it Plugger, y didnt they just get a pig stature made with pluga 4 on it, at least we new what it ment.

Paul Kelly is a club legend, we all love him.

Plugger was a freak and a legend of the competition. If you ever see a game at the SCG from about '94, you will see how empty it was. Fast forward two years to '96 and you'll see a massive difference. The bulk of that was down to Lockett. Many Sydneysiders say that Lockett is the reason they follow the game.

I don't know if anyone's brought people through the gates like Plugger did - with both St.Kilda and the Swans.

I have been going to the SCG since 1992, a time when you could introduce yourself to half the crowd during a game. Plugger wasn't the only reason people started going to the SCG from mid 1995. Paul Kelly played his part as did Roos, Kickett, Lewis, Luff, Dunkley, Barry etc. Winning was the main reason people came to the SCG. Started in the centre, Plugger kicked goals and Eade designed a mid field squeeze and a defensive flood to stop the opposition scoring.

Forget Plugger, Kelly, etc. If any one deserves a statue from the Swans it should be Warwick Capper. To me he always has and always will be the essence of the Swannies.
