The Bulldogs and Umpires: Time for a Royal Commission?

They developed a quick release handball which is a throw where they just move the ball very quickly with both hands but not actually propelling with the fist. Those fractions of a second have made a lot of difference to their style of play. Bevo has coached them that way but if the umps can't see it or it's too quick to call without the benefit of a replay then more power to them for recognising they can get away with it. Up to the umps to pull them up on it but AFL want a fast moving game and Bevo knows it. Smart man.

The free kick discrepancy is a bit much though. The numbers only matter when it seems sustained week by week and they are getting a good run with it again. McLean is a ducker/arm lifter so always worth a few extra too.

It may be the 'throw' is a little quicker than a legal handball, so they may be able to pick up frees from holding the man etc.

Not as incredible as +919 over the last decade or so.

Not a SINGLE year where you didn't win the freekick differential.

West Coast have a home ground advantage which is probably why they get more. It's been shown in other sports to be a factor in umpiring favouring a side. Why it doesn't show up as much for the other teams with genuine home grounds, I don't know. Poor old Swannies do the worst, and next my Hawks. Remember that stupidity of 'freekickhawthorn' business, proven, total BS.

the stats posted in this thread are all meaningless but they are being used to suit the agenda. You at least need the breakup of free kicks.

Haha I remember the Pannell game. Bont BOG by a mile.

Didn't your board have an 86 page melt thread about Pannell being a secret bulldog supporter who was paid off by Beveridge? That was great.

you have to forgive the AFL, the bulldogs have a massive membership base and impeccable tv viewership record - its simply in the best interest of the game they get looked after.

Minnows like West Coast, Essendon, Melb, North etc need to learn their place.

I'm not sure how Toby McLean has been able to get away with it for so long. A player goes to ground a bit too easily in a marking contest and we get the footage replayed all week with commentators wringing their hands about what a bad look it is for the game. McLean drops his shoulders and throws his head back half a dozen times a game and he not only gets away with it, but frequently gets rewarded with the free kick.

He's not the only reason why the Bulldogs win the free kick counts every week, but he's certainly part of it, and he really needs to be called out publicly for what he is: a cheat.

So we've got the most frees against yet some people think we're umpire's pets lol. Only have to look at how the umpires gifted the last week's win to Footscray and tried to do the same thing against the Suns.

Hunter ducker, McLean ducker, Bont protected species, Wallis ducker/knee dropper. They've got quite a few guys who draw a decent amount of free kicks.

A cheat? That’s extreme coming from a Melbourne supporter. Your club epitomises the word cheat after the ‘surprising’ revelations of the last few days.
