The Bulldogs and Umpires: Time for a Royal Commission?

It's literally a pre-season game and the Dogs are up by 50 points...jesus some people will find anything to sook about. Traditionally the team who is winning big and first to the ball is the team who gets more free kicks. But sure, let's have a royal commission during the Marsh Community Series. Grow up people.

Dude, the whole premise of this thread is that there is no pattern or logic to the Bulldogs' baffling run with the umpires.

It's simply odd, and inexplicable.

It happens in pre-season games, and happens in finals. Even happens in grand finals.

Happens when they're up by 50 points - and down by 50 points.

Happens at home, happens interstate.

It's just bizarre.

One might think it could be explained by play style.

But best to go full nuff mode and complain online, just in case

You do realize the team the Dogs are playing against tonight, are the serial offenders when it comes to umpire favouritism, right?

Don't know what that means to be honest.

All I know is that I'm completely unsurprised to see yet again, the Bulldogs being +11 in the Free Kick count.

Don't know why it happens. It just does.

Just FTR - In 2019, the Bulldogs ranked 1st for frees for, and only 16th for frees against, for a net surplus of 4.1 frees per match, easily the best.

In contrast, GWS had by far the worst free kick stats - 18th out of 18 for frees for and yet 1st for frees against, with a net deficit of 4 per game. No other club gets close to this deficit. -

It means that North are the team who get the most free kicks/highest free kick differential across the last 7 seasons. Yet here people are complaining about a team who are in and under (first to the ball) getting the most free kicks; usually due to their fiercely contested, quick handball style - the Dogs. It's ridiculous, lol.

Look back to 2013, Kangaroos are Top 5 or 6, every season. No-one complains about them, lol.

The 2014 PF was the biggest overreaction to the umpiring even greater than the 2011 PF where nearly everyone thought we got a rough run of it

The last quarter was something like 8-2 Port's including a terrible front on contact call in the goal square. The last holding the ball was a tough call but Hodge was held immediately before it.

2015 PF apart from a soft free kick against Ballantyne early, there weren't too many decisions that were terrible

2012 was the worst of the umpiring as we got a few favourable decisions

there were a few. Taberner being tackled with out the ball in the 1st half. Another hawks free kick before half time which resulted in a set shot goal from 55 metres out.

Scary thing was hawks kicked 15.4.94. All 4 behinds were rushed. Not one sprayed shot on goal.

Hence why I didnt complain about the hawks 2016 semi final exit.

Well during our three peat it was 5-3 Hawks way with some of our wins being quite comprehensive, including victories in both finals we played. So the string of wins in a row was back during your era when you were certainly a great H&A side but not quite good enough to ever go back to back.

But, you were a great H&A side. Let no one ever take that away from you.
Yeah and freo were a great Home and away side in 2015, and that meant squat in finals

GWS and Swans with biggest negative FF/FA differential at 4 and 2.7

Interestingly Swans only had a positive free diff in the years 2012 and 2014 by .1 and .6 respectively.

2016 was -2.

Cannot really say that I buy into the narrative that "good teams gets the frees cause first to ball etc etc"

It's a theory pushed by fans of teams favoured by umpires to try justify why they are favoured, nothing else.
