I match the bid for Will Ashcroft at pick one

Pick 1 - Will Ashcroft

The clear number one draft pick, Ashcroft is a ready to go midfielder that is damaging disposer of the footy and spreads from the contest to provide his teammates options. Ashcroft has shown across the year that he is able to lift his team, dominating both at the Championships & at TAC level.

😄 back to you weltschmerz

PICK 2

GWS selects Aaron Cadman. Finding a key forward is great, finding a key forward who wants to move to Sydney (he lives out past Melton, I'd want to leave too) is even better. From Rookie Me:

“The premier key position player in this year’s AFL Draft pool off the back of a consistent season for both GWV Rebels and Vic Country as a strong marking forward.”

TiAn_ North has the next two picks

What can you say about North’s list strategy that hasn’t already been said about Elon Musk’s Twitter reign? Fortunately for Elon, $44B for Twitter is only this year’s second worst overpay, after North spent approximately $240M over 12 years to secure the poor man’s Mark Nicoski: Griffin Logue.

Needs: Basically all of them. McKay, Corr & Logue should be a decent tall defender combo, whilst Xerri and Goldstein should keep them competitive in the ruck. Every position outside of those two desperately needs an injection of talent, whilst those two positions need depth. Handing over pick 19 for the inanimate object called Callum Coleman-Jones then turning down the opportunity to select Logan McDonald despite a glaring need for some genuine KPF help for Nick Larkey, in order to draft alleged actual living football person and vanilla midfielder Will Phillips, seemed curious when executed and increasingly galactic brained as time matches on.

Selections: Published reports suggest these picks are set in stone - George Wardlaw and Harry Sheezel.

George Wardlaw

Wardlaw is the Wish version of JHF, but with an even more Dickensian name and absent the propensity to disappear at the sight of a bath or Al Clarkson. Beset by hamstring injuries this year, he’s a tough ball-winner and defensively minded mid that should push for regular selection by the middle of next year, assuming his ’strings remain intact and he avoids other typical Norf draftee misadventures like the mumps or listening to too much My Chemical Romance.

RookieMe Profile: George Wardlaw

Highlights:

Harry Sheezel

Sheezel is a classy and prolific medium forward that can make the most of limited opportunities. But as Troy Maclure would say, there’s limited and then there’s limited. At a team where the human tug boat Jack Ziebell played as a medium forward and was third leading goal kicker, Sheezel should be best 22 from the day he walks into the temporary class rooms at Arden Street.

RookieMe: Harry Sheezel

Highlights:

Others considered: Elijah Tsatas. Inside/outside accumulator in a bit of the Macrae mould, but more of a runner and less proficient inside. Would go some way to filling the enormous void left behind by Jared Polec.

Next pick: Claythesmiths

With PICK 5

Essendon will select Bailey Humphrey from Gippsland Power.

It was a very tricky decision to decide between Phillipou, Tsatas and Humphrey here, but I've jumped on Humphrey as the closest to fulfilling Essendon's needs. In 2021, Essendon's midfield trio of Zach Merrett, Darcy Parish and Dylan Shiel contributed just 12 goals between them from 54 games combined, and this lack of scoreboard impact from their midfield is a long-term worry.

Humphrey could potentially form an explosive midfield partnership with fellow first-round draftee Archie Perkins, while Ben Hobbs develops into the ball-winning contested beast.

There's more to Humphrey's game than just scoreboard impact, of course. He's an excellent contested mark, a fierce tackler, and could be a long-term medium forward in the Toby Greene mold.

Pick 6 Gold Coast Suns.
Mattaes Phillipou
Woodville West Torrens
192cm 83kg
27/12/2004

Phillipou is a player that has game breaking, match winning capacity.
He is an athletic, well balanced, multi position prospect and though he is a good size already, he has a late December birthday which suggests significant development to come.
His skillset as an attacking forward threat in the air and at gound level as well as his demonstrated mid capabilities means he is well placed to excel at the next level.
He is a confident player yet has a subtle graceful power to his gamestyle and though his kicking is fluid, he can be prone to the odd shank at times.
Phillipou's development as a third tall/hybrid forward will compliment the Suns core forwards Chol, King, Jeffries and Ainsworth nicely and though he may be inconsistent early, as he matures into his body and grows his game at League level, we will see more prominence of his dual position attacking threat and scoreboard impact.
Whilst the Suns have drafted mid forwards recently such as Hollands and Flanders, Phillipou projects as a class above.

Inside The Kennel you're up.

Pick 7, Hawthorn: Elijah Tsatas
Gun midfielder with elite forward craft. We have been scouting this diamond closely and believe he has the capacity to blow the competition to pieces. Has the ability to win his own ball and a lateral shimmy and side-step that would make Steve MacPherson's work on the dance floors of 1980's Western Suburb discos look novice.

Tsatas is strong overhead, is a born leader, has lovely hair and won the Oakleigh Best and Fairest from only six appearances. He could be anything and the recruitment team almost fell off our chairs when he slipped through to pick 7.

I am unable to see the facial expressions of the list managers from GWS, North Melbourne, Essendon and the Gold Coast due to the egg on their collective faces.

Go Hawks, we got the 2028 Brownlow Medalist right there...

With pick 8 Geelong select Jhye Clark.

Clark doesn't have the explosive speed, silky skills or forward craft that's in demand from a lot of midfielders. He more than makes up for it with his ferocious appetite for the ball, desire to win and the consistency to bring his best to every game. He does his best in the contest, if he wins the ball he'll get a well timed handball to a teammate or throw it onto his boot to move it forward quickly, and if an opposition player has it you can be sure Clark will be right there to bring them down with a strong tackle.

Geelong will be hoping to develop his outside game a bit but as an inside beast there's not much better, and he comes in as a perfect replacement for Selwood.

Ash1337 you're up.

West Coast with pick 9 select Reuben Ginbey.

Third tall defender turned into a inside beast. WA's best prospect provides a powerful big body and clean hands. His brilliant running capacity means he can break away from the center and kick into the forward line and he's tough to boot. He won the MVP award for WA and got a 6.15 for the 2km trial in the combine. His outside game and kicking needs some work but that can be worked on.

West Coast are stoked that he's there at pick 9 and look forward to start him straight in the midfield taking over the space from left over from Redden's retirement.

Dav1d could you edit the first post with a list of who's been taken, for quick reference?

1. Brisbane: Will Ashcroft (matched bid)
2. GWS: Aaron Cadman
3. North: George Wardlaw
4. North: Harry Sheezel
5. Essendon: Bailey Humphrey
6. Gold Coast: Mattaes Phillipou
7. Hawthorn: Elijah Tsatas
8. Geelong: Jhye Clark
9. West Coast: Reuben Ginbey

With pick 10, St Kilda select Cameron McKenzie.

Cam McKenzie, has come through the Saints NGA Academy, courtesy of his South African born father.
Saints under the new rules could select him after #40, but with so many clubs showing interest in McKenzie, with some rating him a top 10 pick, and with other draft considerations Phillipou and Tsatas now gone, the Saints couldn’t afford to take the chance and pounced.

McKenzie has similarities to Callum Mills, with his ability to push forward and find the scoreboard. He averaged 24 possessions for Sandringham, and will take some of the pressure off Jack Steele.

Yeah I’ll do that a bit later tonight for sure
Thanks for the idea

Apologies for the delay.

With pick 11 Carlton select Jedd Busslinger.

As much as I'd love to let him slip through to the Dogs I think he's just as good of a list fit for Carlton who have been way too reliant on spuds like Lewis Young since the loss of the best key defender in the league in the form of Liam Jones.

Busslinger's second half of the year was wiped out with a shoulder injury which saw him slip down draft boards but before that he was every bit a contender to be taken in the top 5. His game has mainly been focused up until now as an interceptor and rebounder, which should serve as a good platform to play early as a third tall while also developing his one on one capabilities.

Munnez you're up.

Western Bulldogs with Pick 12 select

Elijah Hewett

185cm/85kg
27/5/04
Swan Districts/Western Australia
Midfielder
October ranking: 13

Hewett has big aspirations to quickly make an impact at AFL level and he has the power and strength to step into the top level. He played in Swan Districts' senior side this season and also had a big day out against Vic Metro at the mid-year championships. He plays with force and tested well in the agility and jumps events at the NAB AFL Draft Combine last month.

Probable top 10 prospect that has slid due to possible attitude issue's and the chance of being a flight risk. Good WA Contingent at the Dogs and will back in the club environment to turn him around.

Other player considered Ollie Hollands, with the possibility of enticing the brother to come onboard

Ash1337 your up
