Who is our best option at CHF?

Vickery = useless
Griff is no better
Aaron Edwards = useless as well.

When McBean is injury free I would play Jack at CHF and McBean FF.

Why promote Anthony Miles and not play him?

Can't understand the logic here. We have been getting smashed for contested possessions most weeks. Surely he has to play this week so we can see what he has got to offer. It shouldn't be too hard to find someone to drop this week.

Did we over-achieve last year or are we under-achieving this year?

Probably a bit of both. We had a good draw and few injuries last year but we have certainly regressed about 3 years in our development this year.

Feel free to add your questions (and answers) below...

Our draw this year is 13% better than last years . The burning question is why we got Hampson and Thomas to the club . Choc ordered Thomas off the field at training for port because he couldn't hit a target over 20 m , nothing has changed. How do you get dropped from Training FFS

And you would fail miserably as a coach.

Riewoldt is a full forward, in fact he is the best goal kicking full forward in the game. Unfortunately he is not the strongest or best contested mark. Riewoldt needs to hover within 40m out from goal 90% of the game.

Griffiths and Vickery both have talent, and lots of it. Griffiths needs a full season up forward just to find his game, forwards just take time. Vickery just needs confidence, and quickly his aggression will return. In tandem they can not only cause headaches for opposition defenders and provide ruck support but they can give Jack the freedom to take marks and kick goals. Don't ever underestimate the benefit of playing 3 tall forwards and manning up all opposition defenders.

Get this working and you might get 20-30 from Griffiths as he will move the highest up the ground, 30-50 from Vickery as a closer to goal forward and 60+ from JAck as your main goal kicker. It can work we just need the right coaches.

How long do we persist with Vickery? He has been gifted games for years without providing any consistency. You say he will take time and needs confidence. Let him develop in the twos.

Griffiths has shown glimpses but he still hasn't shown that he can be a viable CHF when replacing Vickery.

I agree that Riewoldt is better at FF but so is McBean. Vickery and Griffiths are not viable options so we will need to think outside the square.

I'm just baffled by the whole Miles situation. How the **** does Thomas get picked in front of him?
I don't think we over achieved last year, played some really good football and attacked the game unlike this year.
As far as CHF goes, we may as well play Edwards. He leads up useless or not, Griffiths and Vickery have no clue at all about finding space and being the hit up target. On reflection McGuane was so far ahead of both it's not funny, even with his brain farts.

Don't be stupid that's not the game plan, its better to play megan gale who cant lift his arms above his head and makes richo look like a dead eye dick in front of goal , than either of those two, Dimma and his barometers, **** off dimma

1.Griffiths is our best option as a CHF , just needs to be played there not at this half arsed role of 20metres from goal .

2. No idea what so ever , clearly out pointed Thomas IMO during pre season , although to Thomas credit he was ok on the smaller grounds .

3. We have kissed on the dick with a amazingly good injury run for 2-3 years , we now have possibly 80% of the side who have or us recovering from a injury. It happens , we just haven't been food enough to cover it and or actually list quality is being exposed for what it is . Sub par .

Why exactly did we get hampson again? I mean dericx or however his name is spelt is doing a solid job at sydney. Why didnt we persist with him>

I'm convinced his manager is the best sales person on he planet and could sell a plate of shit to a blind man. I reckon Blair and Dimma have just obsessed over his hit out stats and grossly over rated our footy departments ability to teach him how to catch or kick.

You made that up Troy. ROFLMFAO. It just cant be true.

What was Choco smoking....or eating... when they drafted Thomas this year?

No it's deadly serious Choco ordered Thomas off the ground at training one day and told him if he can't kick the ball he may as well quit

We won our grand final last year, job done finals.

This year no hunger, no team work, lack of effort.................. is this due to players being comfortable last year or the coach. Either way someone needs to put hand up and do something about it. No more talk about what we need to do better, just flipping do it or get the hell out and give someone else a go.

McBean at FF...................NOW?? Clueless.
Jack at CHF????................See above

Might as well give McBean some experience at senior level and start developing him. He looks like a long term option.
Jack has been playing further up the field most of the time anyway and will take the heat off McBean.

It is better than persisting with Griff and Vickery as they are not working out.

We have to try something... McBean and Riewoldt are both really FF's but we can't play them both there so one will have to move.

Vickery has been tried and he does not have the ticker at this level. Griffiths has gone past him and I would give him the rest of the year at CHF. Jack is a natural FF and that's where he stays. McBean to continue development with a view to the third tall option, and if he has the engine, try at CHF or as a relief ruckman.

Knowing the current match committee and coaching panel, McBean will debut in a back pocket with a lock down role on the opposition crumbing forward.

Vickery should be played only as a second ruck to ensure we get a second rounder for him at the trade table.

McBean is injured and even if he weren't is no where near ready for AFL seniors! Griff is the clear option just needs some coaching.

The answer to that is to Dimma: you have no idea, we need to get a coach he will play the best FF in the league at FF.
McBean nowhere near ready for senior football.
Griff would be better if they actually kicked it to him

I agree that Riewoldt is better at FF but so is McBean. Vickery and Griffiths are not viable options so we will need to think outside the square.

You can not judge Griffiths based on a handful of games in the seniors where the team has mostly be under siege and have struggled to move the ball quickly. Griffiths has the ability to become a top class CHF you just have to persist with him so he gets the experience and confidence.. If Griffiths is allowed consecutive games from now until he reaches his 50th we should revisit this discussion because I bet he will be playing quite well by that stage. The jump from VFL to AFL is like A-League to Premier League... especially for forwards.

As for Vickery he has not dominated but he has also shown some ability. It is disappointing that he isn't more aggressive but we need to give him the opportunity to play as part of a strong forward line with a good delivery system in place.

For me I would play a forward line that consisted of something Like Riewoldt, Vickery, Griffiths, Lennon, McDonough, Lloyd or S.Edwards for the rest of the year. They need to get used to working together in leads and at ground level and that just takes time. If we keep that sort of structure and make sure we man up every defender, we will have a good forward line in no time.

If Vickery then doesn't lift his game to the next level it will be McBean or Elton's turn, although Elton may be required to replace Chaplin as Astbury is going to struggle to come back from a second knee.

If I may further the discussion with another question.

What are your expectations and phylosophies for the rest of the season?
As far as finals are concerned, its over, but their is a lot to play for.
We can just play the kids, but expect a few more beatings. By playing the kids we need to give them roles or responsibility. They need to understand why they have been assigned that role and what they get out of it. Also, teaching them to play with system that wins games.
Playing 10 or 11 learning games will help with the development of the younger guys. The coaching staff will need to change their mindset on game day and at the selection table. Winning games is not the most important result, development is.
What do we do with the recycled players?
Most of them are contracted for next year, so their are no quick fix with them. As I said before the coaching staff/ match committee need to change their selection policy. No more free game or favorites, if you deserve a game well done.
Sometimes senior players can become complacent. No one should be spared and a clear message that the standard needs to rise.
Lastly, build a mental base.
The players are weak mentally. This is clearly shown whenever we play a big game or a strong side.
Today, Sam Soliman won the IBF middleweight title and made a statement that all Richmond player should adhere too.

“I used to run go running with Tommy Hafey on the beach and when I felt tired he’d push me on. He taught me to find another gear,” Soliman said after his unanimous points win over the 35 year-old Sturm.

Finding another gear means you get out of your comfort zone and push yourself mentally and physically.
Thats what i expect the players to do. What a great example.
