I would welcome a player of Bowden's quality, especially if coming from a spud like Morton.

Yeh if Morton turns out to be a duel AA, duel B+F winner who plays over 250 games that would be a disaster.

I guess what I was trying to say was that we will have a player who plays for himself - someone capable of floating loose across the half back line picking up 30+ useless possessions a game without hurting the opposition whatsoever.

You guys are calling him out too early imo - he is only 22. We need to forget the putting on weight thing - he's skinny - always will be. Didnt stop Mathew Lappin though. He needs aggression, hunger and team orientation and he will be a very good footballer.

Still can't believe that this spud was number 4 in the National Draft....and Pat Dangerfield was 10

Who makes these calls?
People basing their calls on seeing 200 odd youngsters a year, with a max of probably 5-10 times, plus the statistics from the draft camp, plus maybe an interview. Critically, they operate totally without hindsight.

Morton won the Larke medal. It was hardly surprising that he went so high.

I dont blame the recruiters for this one, Cale has all the tools to become a great player. Pity you cant measure heart and desire at draft camp.

He's just a putrid squibb, i couldn't care less if we let him go and he becomes good for another team, it isnt going to happen here. He typifies everything about our current playing group. Inconsistent and soft.

Goodbye Cale.

For what it's worth, I thought similar things about Goddard in his first few years.

I don't think the current style of football suits Cale though, whilst I don't think he is a squid, he clearly doesn't enjoy the hard stuff like a Tapscott or McKenzie does. If we were playing one on one 90s football, he'd be tearing it up on the wing.

When I think of Cale, I go back to a game a couple of years ago when Bailey put him on Adam Goodes, and from what I recall - Cale did a pretty good job. At that stage I think people were talking him up a bit, and he has really stalled in development over the last 18 months or so.

Does anyone else think that perhaps he suffers from not having a well defined role? I never really know what Cale is in the side to do - even compared to some of the boys who you might not see much, but you know they are performing a role within the side. I honestly have no idea what Bailey is asking Cale to do at the beginning of a game. Randomly waltz up and down a wing and hope to pick up cheap possies?

Said to be a great bloke, but this is not a list of great blokes. He doesn't play football, he sashsays around a footy field, playing his style of footy and not what the team needs. He's laid nine tackles this year in nine games. Last year it was 21 in 10. Hate to say it, but he plays like he does not want to be there. Hasn't he ''put off contract negotiations until the end of the season''?

maybe he is waiting the season out to head north, but I'm sure Sheedy doesn't want soft players who don't put in the effort either, better be careful not to play himself out of a phat contract.
we want our 1st round compo pick Cale, pull your finger out!

Just thought I'd chip in by saying he's as soft as the food he's been eating for the past couple of days.

Hopefully he's like Goddard in that he takes ages to get good, because that means he'll at least be good.

At the moment the Bad Cale is outplaying the Good Cale (and he can be good).

He's a number 4 draft pick. I think if he is played the right way he'll be okay. The Morton against Goodes, the Morton against the Bombers a few weeks ago.

Bailey should give him one task, a tag perhaps, each week to the end of the season and see how he goes.

Agreed. Once it was McTime for Cale. Now it is Luger time.

For his sake, I hope he stays away from Sheedy.

Surely the bloke has some sort of currency... could we ship him somewhere within Victoria for a pick / player? It's not like he's 27 and past it. He's just 22/23... and past it... That sounds a little better. Maybe.

When this kid comes good again alot of people are goig nto have egg on their faces, its happened numerous times,

Frawley, Garland, Watts, Martin, JAMAR all wernt worth their weight lol and its Morton this year,

Morton IS the FULL package and when he puts it all together he will be hailed a hero just wait for it....love all these Melbourne supporters who want to ship players off after an injury or form slump lol

Go for a ski or something to cool off, i here Hotham has a decent coverage atm

Some of you people are an absolute disgrace. Ive never seen such bitterness and nastiness ever. How many of you have played AFL? Do you know what goes on behind closed doors? How about supporting one of your own instead of turning on him when the times get tough. Cale Morton has spent the past two preseasons injured, both long term injuries that required surgery and stopped him from having full preseasons. I also agree that his role in the side is poorly defined so how on earth can you expect him to know what it is if it's not clear to us who watch week in, week out. Is it any wonder that he isnt fulfilling your huge expectations? This is the same kid who called hundreds of members each year since joining the club and asked them to sign on, even when the performances had been bad. From all accounts, he loves the team and the guys he plays with so how about just enjoying him for the athlete he is. Give him one preseason without interruption and then we'll see what he's made off. Give him a break, I'm not even a Demons fan but I watch each week because I like your style of play and the players on your list. This kids amazing, he's got the talent. I see glimpses each week and I think when he gets a full preseason he'll surprise alot of people.

Cale's an outside player, and for a lot of people around here, you're either a tough-as-nails inside player, a KPP, or GTFO. Aaron Davey and Cale Morton both cop it because they don't tend to win their own ball.

Cale has been poor the year. He has a few excuses, and in any other year I'd be just as outraged at the calls to get rid of him, but this is not any other year, this is GWS year, as we're quite aware thank you very much, and we might just be able to get a good deal for him. If we can't get at the very least a high 2nd rounder for him then I'd like to keep him, but if we can, we should definately consider it. He's skilled and has enormous potential but he has major attitude and confidence problems, and needs to put on weight. All of these issues can be fixed during pre season.

Had a finger injury this year, and did a knee injury last year in a nab cup game. Both were after the bulk of preseason. He simply struggles to execute under pressure, particularly by foot, and still has at least 1 moment of softness per game. He's got talent, but he's got issues that won't be fixed overnight or with a good preseason. If he stays he might fix them, if he goes then he's not our problem and that may be a good thing.

I call "Sister/Mother/Girlfriend/Cousin/Close-Family-Friend" of the Morton family.

Not saying that there is some or even a lot of truth in that, but I'm always suss on newbies who come on to another teams board & rants. Not a troll, but only 18 posts in total, only about half of those about the footy & almost all of those involve something to do with a Morton, mostly Jarryd.

Has been less effective in the years with extended lay-offs, but agree with master that he seems to have more deep seeded problems than just getting an extended run. Might be a case where we all know he has the talent, but maybe we need to cut our losses & decide our coaches efforts are more effectively used in other places. Maybe

Listen Mrs Morton, it's nice that you defend your boy but surely you can see our frustration that your boy oscillates between playing frightened and disinterested. The main reason IMO that a lot of us are as pessimistic as we are is because we've seen the exact same thing from his virtual clone the lanky and extremely talented Brent Grgic. He was seen as the next Garry Lyon but instead he floated out of the game as just another wasted talent. Half the younger guys here probably haven't even heard of the lanky squib. Cale Morton doesn't need defending he needs a reality check and fast.
