hate that shit - barely recognizable from the song we sang winning premierships............Can we cancel all the, whoos and high pitch squeals the players do after every line in the song?
hate that sh*t - barely recognizable from the song we sang winning premierships............
A big story dropping shortly regarding Simmo, revealed exclusively on Dyl and Friends’ podcast/vodcast this week.
Watch this space!
Retired Carlton veteran Kade Simpson has put himself on the market for this year’s mid-season draft, declaring he wants to continue his AFL career.
Simpson, who retired at the end of last season after a monumental career of 342 games, says he wishes he was still playing and believes he could still be an important recruit for a team challenging for this year’s premiership.
Were your victories Post or Pre Depression era?hate that sh*t - barely recognizable from the song we sang winning premierships............
Such an interesting and emotionally charged discussion. I was appalled when 1st found out the origins of our club song( some time ago now).no it isn't - that's just too simple an effort - no harm in discussing the issue without people being so defensive.......no-one's stealing your precious sports club
You know the song originated in the UK and has nothing to do with indigenous Australians?Such an interesting and emotionally charged discussion. I was appalled when 1st found out the origins of our club song( some time ago now).
I worked through my feelings on it back then.
People need time to process.
It originated as a superb melody with atrocious lyrics. The melody was retained and made use of because it was so catchy and likeable.
You could say the melody was rescued and retained because it was good. What was not good was discarded.
The melody therefore, can be seen as something symbolic of evolving thought. It symbolises a positive evolution from an unenlightened era.
Bearing in mind that even if something does not offend us, it might offend or be painful to others...we turn to our own indigenous brothers and ask how they feel.
Their answer is clear.
No problemo.
Therefore, our way forward is clear.
Dadadadahda people.
We have liberated a melody from the clutches of ignorance. This is good.(imho)
Uncovering and examining is also good.
I'm talking about the yips and extras the players have added over the years. If what we sing now is barely recognisable from the song we used to sing then what is the problem
I've seen/heard some long bows drawn over the years, but I think the attempt to link our club song to racism is probably the longest so far.
garbage - try to understand a person who has what he/she believes to be good intentions - regardless of the issue or the process by which they deliver it - haven't you ever had strong feelings around an issue where you put yourself in a vulnerable position publicly? or do you just stay quiet? easiest thing in the world to attack this bloke - some have behaved in a more reasonable way - others like yourself shortcut to the ultra boring and useless shutdown technique.................The whole drama around the Carlton song is really just a case of a sad individual trying to stir up trouble for cheap political point scoring. You guys should take a stand and call out this crap for the nonsense it is.
Look, he was a great servant, but he was a liability for the last 3 or so years. The new rules would make it even harder for him.![]()
Retired Blue Simpson in shock comeback bid
Kade Simpson retired from football after 18 seasons at Carlton. But as he heads towards his 37th birthday, he wants to play AFL football again.www.theage.com.au
The question becomes, at what point do you draw the line between allowing external voices to have too prominent a role within your organisation, without closing your mind to pertinent criticisms? The whole drama around the Carlton song is really just a case of a sad individual trying to stir up trouble for cheap political point scoring. It's certainly easier to dismiss this bloke as you have. Don't know if it's the right thing to do, though.
In the case of our club song, Hagen appears to be fishing. He is searching for people who find the tune objectionable. I'd be quite confident that not one indigenous person has approached him & said "hey, that Carlton club song is extremely racist".garbage - try to understand a person who has what he/she believes to be good intentions - regardless of the issue or the process by which they deliver it - haven't you ever had strong feelings around an issue where you put yourself in a vulnerable position publicly? or do you just stay quiet? easiest thing in the world to attack this bloke - some have behaved in a more reasonable way - others like yourself shortcut to the ultra boring and useless shutdown technique.................

If he is sincere about wanting to improve the lot of indigenous Australians, he should have bigger fish to fry than an AFL club song, which the vast majority of Australians of all backgrounds would have no clue of its origins.
