Carrots was 29 when Mick came and was missing games with injuries but he was definitely a walk up start. Think he was in the leadership group too.

I don't think Murph would have referred to a player who was not guaranteed to play every week if he was talking about Carrazzo. It feels like a fringe solid citizen to me, at least in Murph's mind. Unless Carrazzo's injuries at the time were ongoing and similar.

It was definitely Carrots. Mick thought he was the standout candidate but injured too often so went with Murphy who was seen as someone who could grow into the role. Was quoted on it previously.

To tell you the truth, I would have preferred Carrazzo too, but Judd should have kept it IMO.

If you take the gambling/money side out of it, these agencies "should" be able to offer an unbiased assessment of each team's chances. The market seems purely based on last year's ladder.

I know we as supporters can be blinded to reality, but I would assess any likely improvement or regression as follows:

Positives:

Charlie back and fit.
Cripps fully fit.
The addition of Cerra and Hewett as genuine best 22.
The removal of a coach and assistants that a thorough external review found to be not up to it.
Another preseason into multiple high draft picks (and others).
Likelihood of improved fitness for key recruits in Martin, Williams and Gov.
The loss of no-one of importance (current performance wise) through retirement or trading.
Several options for the smaller forward role/s - we won't be relying on one or bust.

Negatives: Whilst we can put a more positive spin on some of these, a devil's advocate approach would likely have the following.

Jones.
Doc's health situation to some extent is unknown.
New coach with new gameplan to adjust to.
Marchbank and Cuningham coming off ACL's.
Years of serving up rubbish.

I would have thought that to balance the pros and cons doesn't result in a lesser likelihood of us making finals than this year. I was wondering how much shorter than $2.50 we would be, so was genuinely surprised when I saw the market.

Murph also said he couldn’t do shoulder weights or barely lift his arms above his head in his last 2 years; makes me wonder if he was so banged up why they kept him on the list, def felt like he went on one or two seasons too long.
It was nice to listen to him with Dylan, great servant of the club and we were lucky he didn’t go to Brisbane as a f/s

Would have to go down as one of the worst coaching hire decisions in the last 20 years. Sure you can have a coach come in and underperform, but to trade out all your best players and replace them with garbage, completely polarise a significant portion of the playing list and leave the place in a worse position than it started - not to mention the media dummy spits….. it would go close to being one of the worst appointments in modern AFL history. Mark Neeld at Melbourne definitely up there as well

Mathieson and Swann. Board had to agree though and even though Sticks was genuinely emotional about it, you'd have to think if he fought for Ratts, he would have got the numbers.

On Murph,

The left arm weakness (not being able to do weight lifting) probably goes a fair way to explaining broken tackles. Hard to lay a good tackle when one arm can't go above your head and is probably less strong overall

More than happy to do so if that is the case and happy to leave them to the club, along with the 1959 History of the Carlton Football Club hard covered book signed by the entire list in 1967 and the huge framed piece with the 1968, 1970 & 1972 footy records and the Carlton Football Club yearbooks from those years.

He is currently working on building the memoribilia archive at the club as we are going to have a brand spanking new real Blueseum before the end of the year which is going to be amazing and will require new material as display items are occassionally rotated.

I've had a look at Tony's archive at the club and I'm pretty sure the club already has most of the items you mentioned, but it would not hurt to get in contact with Tony to see if there is something you may be able to lend or give to the club.

Hopefully some of the serious private collectors out there will gain more confidence in the club's commitment to memorabilia when the new facilities are open.

Also, we at the Blueseum are always ready to feature new digital copies of memorabilia such as photos, team pictures etc if you have something rare that has not been seen before.

Actually, we do not have a copy of the 68 3KZ broadcast (we have the other two). If you could provide a digitised version of the record we would love to include it on our 1968 Grand Final page.
