Wait what, we have one of those in the 2's??? We don't have one of those in the 1's...

Moir needs to play, we just need natural forwards not second rate mids that fill a gap...

And don't give me, what has he done in the 2's crap either...
Could he be the Brad Pearce type player we desperately need ?

Quite the opposite, very long review.

Voss was fuming. Showed footage of a couple of Richmond goals with the team getting around the goal kicker, and their defence celebrating amongst themselves.
Then showed our next goal and we did the opposite.

Richmond showed connection, we did not. Big emphasis on that.

Lots of embarrassing footage shown as you would expect.

It may have been mentioned earlier, but the Prendercast boys mentioned that they had heard that Graham Wright was fuming after the Richmond game and maybe let the coaches know about it ??

We didn't. We used pick 29 on a player who was rated highly pre his draft year but was a slider due to a so so year. We did it on the understanding that it might take a while for him to get the traits required, but if it all fell into place he would be a steal.
It is simple, Moir is a difference maker. We don't know if he has tenacity but where we are at the moment, you play him over plodders like young and evans

The discussion about playing Moir over Young is of course ridiculous. Evans didn't play last night so clearly he was only a short term replacement for Fantasia that didn't workout and wasn't keeping Moir out.

I would have thought that the discussion would be more along the lines as to whether you play Moir over Kemp? Or maybe you drop a small like Fogarty or Williams.

Moir has yet to prove himself a "difference maker" . He struggled big time in the reserves for most of last year, started to come good late, got a couple of quarters late in the season where he touched the ball 8 times. Started our first match sim this year and struggled to impose himself. Kicked a couple in a twos' practice match last week from not a lot of touches.

It just might be that he gets setup for failure by playing him too early whilst the team is struggling. Hoping that he has a good game tonight to show that he's worth a shot at it.

I just watched Moir turn 2 opposition players inside out snap a goal and tap the ball on the chest of a small fwd for another, in the vfl- that is your difference maker-right there

Depends if he does it once a game or regularly. Another poster watching the game has just posted that he doesn't work hard enough to impact. The current concerns are his tank and his ability to impose himself on games.

Every year on this board there's a "golden unicorn", a player that has it all and is ready to explode but is being held back by our coaches. This year it's Moir, last year it was Binns, in 2022 it was Kemp. Prior to that Honey was going to be our saviour.

Nobody wants Moir to succeed more than me. Hopefully he can put together a body of work to make himself irresistible.

Spot on. I fear Moir will become Paddy Dow 3.0 (after Binns became the 2.0 model last season)

Kids are inconsistent and Moir def has a lot to work on. The alternative is what? Sticking with Fogarty? That isn't really working either is it, the guy cannot hit the scoreboard, doesn't win enough f50 gbg, even his main attribute - fierce tackling has been down from his past performances.

yeah, i'm over mcgovern.

we all know he has ability but:

  • rocked up to the club on big money unfit
  • couldn't get a kick as a 3rd tall fwd
  • continued to get injured due to poor fitness
  • heaps of puff pieces about how the pennys dropped and he's working with AR to get fit
  • moved back and showed a bit
  • inconsistencies remained
  • still can't be relied on as a cool head/soldier back there

30yo this year. he ain't coming good now.

move him on.
Very polite. I would have finished with words that rhyme with
Duck sim cough

Too much skill for our AFL side - might show the rest up 😉

The key point is “every year there’s a golden unicorn” - we’ve kept recruiting them since Anthony Koutoufides - there’s a reason they’re called golden unicorns - they only come around once in a lifetime.

In this case golden unicorn means players who this board anoint as the next superstar without any actual runs on the board.

Read any write up of tonight's game and you'll get the picture with Ashton. Does a few "how good was that" things and not much else.

Maybe his game would translate better at AFL level. Pretty sure that at the moment he would be a defensive liability playing on Bailey Dale next week or Dan Houston the following.

No one has said Moir is a superstar. Many are saying he is better than most of our small fwds and definitely better than evans and probably kemp. Moir does not get enough of the pill but impacts.

All valid points. But just passing on what I have heard.

I want Moir to play too. I Reckon he has class!
Couldn’t have imagined Bosustow playing in the 2’s.
Not that Moir is him.
But if you have an ounce of X Factor, get them in asap
God knows we need some flair.

90% or entries are long bombs inside 50s. We're more reliant on inside 50 pressure than any team in the comp. Moir makes us substantially worse in that area.

If he can get his work rate up and chase consistently, he absolutely comes in. His lack of defensive workrate would absolutely get exploited at AFL level.

Moir is building. Said it when he was drafted we likely won't see the best of him for atleast 3-4 seasons. He had no work rate as a junior and still needs to develop that for the next level which takes time.

His talent is undeniable and he's made significant improvements this year especially around his strength in the contest and ability to get his hands free but I still wouldn't be playing him before at least the back half of this season. He's just not fit enough for the time being.

Against the dawks
Fog had 8 touches for no goals
Kemp had 6 touches for 1 goal

So 7 possessions with 2 goals for Moir is better than what we’re currently getting.
At a lower level against much lower quality opposition. Kemp was playing a tagging role on Sicily for the entire first half of the game too, and our forward entries have been diabolical

We seem to want to spend a lot of time waiting for kids to become superstars in the VFL. If Moir's issue is workrate then I'm happy for him to be held back while they push him harder. If the issue is tank, then screw it, let him build it while playing in the seniors, at least then he's simultaneously getting used to the level, the pressure, the opposition, the teammates, the stakes, the attention etc.

Our VFL delivery is significantly worse than our shit AFL delivery, if we're demanding that Moir kick 5 GOTY contenders per game before he "earns" a call up, it'll never happen.
