Opinion The 'Carlton related stuff that doesn't need it's own thread' thread Part 3

I’ve just bought all three debutants. They look amazing.

Individually numbered like the Hilites cards (those that collect will know). Random people that order will be gifted a platinum version numbered to 49.

The next few debutant cards we could potentially get:

Ben Camporeale
Billy Wilson
Hudson Okeefe
Harry O’Farrell
Harry Lemmey

Heard a whisper...

Said employee, henceforth known as "ITK" has been terminated due to concerns around leaks to media, particularly BigFooty.

No, not really.
Perhaps he was terminated because his leaks to big footy were not frequent enough, as info to "rumours no discussion" has been rather lean for a while now.....p.s. would rather lose "ITK" than "TDK" that`s for sure!!!

Not sure where to put this, but I found it interesting. I was chatting to one of my Bio mechanists today, and asked him what would happen to professional sports people (AFL) if they trained for endurance or one particular way for years and then all of a sudden, a new HP Manager came in and altered the training program to focus on Speed and Power (still with endurance).

His response was.....
Kicking accuracy is a highly neuromuscularly coordinated skill — it's not just about power, but control, timing, and repeatability under fatigue.
Increase leg power and neuromuscular output, you temporarily disrupt motor patterns the player has relied on for years.
Players may overhit kicks or struggle with finesse and hit targets that they 'could' do with their eyes closed. Their brain has to re-map force control at different joint angles and speeds.
Power-based conditioning can cause the athlete to recruit larger, faster motor units, which are great for speed — but not ideal for delicate or precise movements until retrained.
Fast-twitch dominant players may fatigue differently, affecting late-game precision until new energy systems catch up.
He said that there are so many factors, however athletes could take up to 12 weeks for the Players start to coordinate better with increased strength, and probably a little longer for Players to be at a new performance baseline — more power, with control.

Given the recruitment of the new HP guy from Sydney, the change in training from Jack to the new power endurance/speed system we have in place. That combined with the 'lack of finesse' over the first 5 weeks. I found this fascinating.

Seems to be clicking a little better, hopefully, as many have said, we may be primed for a great second half of the year.

Happy Days if correct.... If not.... don't hold me to it ;). Just thought I'd pass it on.

IMO we won’t win a flag until we can fix recruitment, development and coaching.

All 3 areas have issues and don’t combine to work together as one.

Recruiting
Both Carroll (delisted) White (overlooked originally) have been shining lights this year and are only on the list for sheer dumb luck for Austin and Co.

Our strategy of loading up, on as many off-cast small forwards and hope one lands isn’t good enough. Neither is our overlooking glaring kicking deficiencies of recruits.

Development
This is a major issue, that flys under the radar and gets overlooked here too much. What are Power and Co doing? Players are regressing from this time last year.

While O.Hollands, 2x Camporeale, Binns, Monahan, Duffy and White, are young and easier to adapt. WTF aren’t our development coaches teaching them correct kicking techniques and drilling it into them. Acres and Docherty should be in this group also.

Coaching
Bombing it out of defence and hoping McKay, Curnow or TDK mark it and bombing it into our forward line hoping McKay, Curnow or TDK mark it. Is how the game was played in the 90s. It’s time to get up to speed of the modern game.

IMO our 3 areas.. backs, mids, forwards don’t consistently work as a coherent team. It looks like when the ball is in any third, it’s just their responsibility.

Mids don’t constantly help enough in defence and forwards set up poorly for the option coming out of defence.

Mids and defenders don’t consistently fill the outlets and squeeze the opposition to lock the ball in our front half.

Until we can get recruiting, development and caching all running together, we won’t break this 30 year drought…

I agree with you. 1 thing about development I would say is the kids actually have no one to learn off in the VFL. We have no experienced players in there. If Doc is physically ok I hope he goes to the VFL and helps teach the kids onfield. For example Tom Hawkins is playing country footy. Why not say hey Tom we don't expect much, we will give you light training sessions etc all we want mainly is for you to play and teach our forwards. Imagine what Lemmy could learn off him including other forwards. Not saying he would but these kids in the VFL need someone on field. I would go as far to say get a back, mid and forward all ex AFL players or at least experienced people. It's hard for kids to learn off kids. Hopefully Doc will go back there and do this but i still feel 1 experienced player on each line would help immensely. Look at all these players from 2024 delisted or retired. Surely we could find a few in this lot.

You have a fleet of biomechanists?
Impressive!

I like the idea.
Someone like Fev, Mooney, Hawkins, or even Riewoldt teaching Forward craft.
Or Hodge, Selwood or Ablett for our mids

Starts at the top - we need a decent General Manager of Football who can attract decent staff and coaches.

Sorry - you can't have it both ways. They are on the list because Austin picked them when nobody else did.

Frankly - as far as I'm concerned, SOS can go and get stuffed.

Club should move on.
SOS has an attack of the KB's, and in reality they probably should have sacked him earlier, with one particular draft aside, his selections were on the whole rubbish! He likes to draft nice boys, Gawd knows how he found Toby.....

SOS is a sook - if Adrian Whitehead can turn up for the reunion (he actually sued the club for mismanaging his foot injury) then SOS could to.

Jo should give him one of her well timed elbow in the ribs.
Whilst I agree with you, it saddens me deeply that the most decorated member of Carlton's "Royal Family" has severed ties it seems with our mighty club. It broke my heart that he didn't celebrate his son's milestone in the rooms as a father should have. I do hope one day he can break bread with those at the club and come back for official functions/occasions.

That article makes for very sad reading.

Premierships are bloody hard to win and something that should be celebrated, he should be part of it and commemorate what they achieved. If the bloke named emergency on the day can make it, surely SOS can. Even if he didn't get along with some in the team, he would surely have some team mates he was close with. The way he was sacked has nothing to do with the 95 premiership.

It's sad to read that he attends games in a private box and even worse that he wasn't in the rooms for Jack's 100th. That again has nothing to do with him getting sacked.

I just hope that one day, relationships are healed and he comes back to the club.
