Brendan Fevola played a one-off game with Masala Dandenong Reserves FC last Saturday morning at 9:00am. Masala Reserves is a struggling football side that was defeated by over 200 points the week before. Brendan kicked 6 goals out of the team's total of 7 including 4 in the 1st quarter. He also took some great marks. I have made a short compilation video of Fev's highlights from the day. The link is below. Thought the Carlton people would appreciate his efforts and possibly bring back some good memories.

First Crack
Kingy having a go at our Backline coach..( joey agreeing...it's Hamill isn't it ?)
Saying Weiters is not being coached correctly and should not be dragged from where he needs to be.
Says Weiters should demand what he wants and position himself where best and against the most dangerous player...at all times.
Had some footage.

Do they realise we are currently the 2nd best defence in the comp - Hamil and co must be getting plenty right.

King continued on this morning. Saying it is mainly a coaching error allowing 'Hamling/Hambling?' to move him about like a pawn instead of a directive for Weiters to go where he wanted to and let Sydney deal with it. And for Weiters to just do it anyway even if not directed.

That’s probably more of question for Wieters isn’t it ?
Or the coaches.

Tbf this isn't new with Weiters, as he talks about of FC it gets brought up a couple of times a year. Weiters can get tagged out of games and dragged away from dangerous spots, and not so coincidentally when that happens our backline looks far less stable.

They need to be better at switching, but in this instance when SOS was out and the 2nd tall defender was either McGovern or Young, I don't think that's an ideal situation.

Wieters need to realise that we need his footy iq just as much as we do his dour 1v1 defensive mentality

He renowned for making sure he stops his opponent from doing damage on the scoreboard…in reality Hamling isn’t going to win you the game…

Some of it is in him and not just the coaches imo

Would be great if Weitering could stop kicking sideways every time he gets it.

Ironically, it would be great if our midfielders would start finding/kicking sideways to teammates through the midfield instead of bombing it into the forward line with 8 defenders draped all over Charlie and Harry at every opportunity.

McGovern cops it, but at least he turns it over trying to go through the middle.

Weitering stops for 30sec and kicks it sideways or long down the line 10/10 times.

Agree on the mids - Lord seems to look for it, Ollie, Cripps as well. Harry is a shocker, he gets up the ground and takes a mark but will just bomb it long.

Re the F50 issues, I feel sure it's a directive. Kick it to Harry. Kick it to Charlie. Just bomb it in..the forwards will do the rest.
I sure hope Vossy and the coaching panel are paying attention because this has been said many times now and it makes sense.
A very positive rave from Joey.
Interesting timing by Joey.

We could well have a run of wins including this week & he knows it.

Using Curnow as a mobile connecting CHF could well be the answer.

Use his tank and field kicking.

This is also where we need a third tall up forward - Charlie does a Wayne Carey up at CHF & back, Harry leading up, Young Propped in the GS.

Yeap every time we’ve split Charlie and H away from deep inside f50 the quality of our f50 entries has been much much better.

It shouldn't be that hard...
But yep.😊

I think Charlie and Harry shouldn't play within 50 metres of each other, they just drag all the opposition defenders to the area we keep targeting.
Harry's a great link in transition from defence and ruck chop-out, Charlie and Young/Cripps at times should be roaming the F50 as marking targets.

They make it so easy for oppo when they play like that

When I think of Charlie at his best, he's one on one with defenders, not wrestling but bodying up in a contest with low darts coming in

At his worst, it's high up and under kicks that he sits under and gets out-sized (he's only a couple cm taller than Fevola) by longer, taller defenders and H is in his space so he gets three bodies coming across his contest

And Charlie has the ability that only really he, Thilthorpe and Treacy have - the ability to wheel from 55m and send it post high

I really think if we can separate them a bit and have H play very high up the ground then all we need is one of Lemmey, Moir or Young to serve as the 3rd tall and hopefully get a good run with Zac and we should be alright

The Mcguane article which says we are doing a lot right but can't convert i50s to scores reinforces the view that our problem is list management because we don't have the outside players and smalls to deliver and score

They don't. That's the current solution that isn't working. Look at Joey's clip again. Whoever it it takes that mark 80m out and Charlie is right there. They've split them so much the only option is the long bombs or the lateral. For whatever reason we don't lateral. We gothe long. To Harry. And it's so slow to get there it's a 1v3...

With Charlie scratching his ass 65m put from goal incongestion after a lead designed to 'make space'

The basics should be half each both start in the middle and lead in a v out or on fast entries one block and the other lead direct
