Mate. It's not happening this year.
( secretly hoping this post can be made into bumperstickers for being so appallingly wrong!)
Leave the year off, we can use it again (and again)...

16, not 20, but Cerra wasn't pulling any votes off either him or Cripps, and you can see the way umpires vote... Brownlow count is just an offensive mid award at this point, with the odd key forward scoring votes if they're recognised and kick a bag.Had 20 Brownlow votes last year. Just cause he isn’t the best player in the competition, doesn’t mean he still hasn’t played to a high standard since 2021
Sorry Agro, until we can put together a body of work that suggests otherwise, this is going to happen. Our inconsistent form means everyone who comes up against us fancies their chances (like WC will this week and Norf will next week). We, more often than not (lately), oblige by dropping our strides and assuming the position. If our club wants to change that narrative, our blokes need to grow a set, put the big boy pants on and put the foot on the throats of mediocre opposition and show some campaigner. The lack of respect our club commands in the AFL industry is palpable- already the media pundits have targeted us as the team that Norf Melbourne can beat.

Well they almost knocked Freo over in Perth, I don't see why they wouldn't be confident coming up against us.The lack of respect our club commands in the AFL industry is palpable- already the media pundits have targeted us as the team that Norf Melbourne can beat.
They were dominated for 3 quarters by the eagles, who we doninated for half, and it was enough to win by 6 goals. They are terribleWell they almost knocked Freo over in Perth, I don't see why they wouldn't be confident coming up against us.
We'll find out, won't we.They were dominated for 3 quarters by the eagles, who we doninated for half, and it was enough to win by 6 goals. They are terrible

Those four are miles ahead of Walsh - all four are match winners.Im not saying hes been bad. Been great for patches and otherwise at least solid.
But isn't the multi All Australian match winner you'd hope he'd become after what he showed early on. Plus has been injury affected every year.
Butters, Rozee, Smith, Rankine all gone past him. Like I said, still time but it will pass quick. Hopefully his best is still to come.
I'd add Ben King and Bobby Hill to that list. Makes for grim reading.Im not saying hes been bad. Been great for patches and otherwise at least solid.

We could save our good Quarter until the 3rd?Every teams confident coming up against us - they have been for 20 years.
Only this year with Walsh off an interrupted pre-seasonThose four are miles ahead of Walsh - all four are match winners.
Not even close to being in the same conversation.
Because we didn't think there was any value in another mid-season pick? Why not come clean before the mid season draft and free up a list spot?
Because we didn't think there was any value in another mid-season pick?
There's the odd feel good story through the MSD but there's only so much value that can be extracted through the MSD & supplementary list spots etc. A 2nd round MSD pick isn't likely to ever see an AFL field in any meaningful capacity. It also causes an issue down the track with list spots once Cotters is fit again. It's not fair on the 2nd level player to come in and immediately get booted because his list spot is fit now. It's an impact on their lives in that they have to quit their jobs, potentially move cities/locations and all that stuff. It essentially turns their lives upside down overnight, it's not fair on them to have a spot for 6 months as a speculative backup - See how upset Deluca was after we delisted him.
There's no difference in having a vacant spot just sit their unused and leaving them on the list. Upgrading a VFL listed player just because it might be nice for them for a while is also pointless, and is a waste of money - even though it doesn't count against the cap, it's still spending $.I think having the option prior to the draft makes sense regardless? Even if we choose not to fill it.
Plus if you have the position to say a Darcy Hogg just to throw a name out. What is the harm? Already in the VFL program would probably love to be a full time footballer if given the opportunity. At worst you can have the conversation the issue with Deluca was how we handled it also.
Broken leg...?There is usually a reason why players who are clearly talented enough to play senior football and who have done, successfully, in the past are not getting games.
Boyd or Lij ?There is usually a reason why players who are clearly talented enough to play senior football and who have done, successfully, in the past are not getting games.
Broken leg...?![]()
Do tellActively playing and not sidelined
Boyd? There is usually a reason why players who are clearly talented enough to play senior football and who have done, successfully, in the past are not getting games.
e: actively playing and not injured
When you say poor form for this season what exactly are you referring to? He's been selected to play two games - one where he was sub and the other he got concussed. In the VFL he has consistently been one of our better players. And it's not like there isn't an obvious spot for him in the 22. You can easily bring him in at HB allowing Ollie to play more on the wing.Boyd?
Interrupted pre-season (for unknown reason / “broken nose”). Poor form (including last season). Seems to have a bit of an attitude. Concussion. Others preferred. VFL form pending.
The only others have not been overly exposed previously being Binns (disposal), Moir (fitness?) then Evans.
Would like to know more on this??
As a regular VFL watcher I'd say he's doing enough to be selected if we need him but not enough that he's being hard done by if not selected. When you say poor form for this season what exactly are you referring to? Also, where is this evidence anywhere that Boyd has an attitude?
At one stage on the weekend, he had 25 touches for 0 score involvements, against the worst team in the comp. Doesn’t seem anywhere near as damaging this year as he has in previous seasonsAs a regular VFL watcher I'd say he's doing enough to be selected if we need him but not enough that he's being hard done by if not selected.
