Nobody is denying his ability on the financial side. But interfering in the Football Department, and letting his ego get in the way of making good decisions for the Club is a perfectly good reason to sack him.

If we don't look goofy enough already, how silly would we look to now sack Liddle?
I'm confident to say that one or two may want to see him go for his part in SOS's exit, but he wasn't the only one and spoke for others.

Liddle really isn't our main problem. Guess we'll find out more in coming weeks, but can't see us applauding our numbers and then 'punishing' the individual charged with attaining the members and financial result.

EDIT: ...and tonight we'll announce 50K members :)

No, it really isn’t.

No individual is greater than the club, and right now the club is flying off the field.

We can point to all number of people or reasons why, but I have no doubt it is largely because of Cain Liddle.

I love SOS but we only know half the story there.

The situation is regrettable, indeed embarrassing, but worth sacking Liddle over?

No way.

Have a stern chat if needed. But clubs shouldn’t lose good people easily and to lose 2 in such a short time frame isn’t what we need.

Or maybe as head of the whole org trying to ensure a specific department are functioning as a collaborative and unified team.

just getting silly now .....

I remember when we bought in the new $2 coin. Perfectly rational bloke I knew at the time was so irate about the loss of the $2 note that he swore to every person that he met that he would never ever use them no matter what.

Sometimes you gave to get over things and move on. I think that we dealt with the SOS thing poorly but there are so many things where the club are kicking goals that I believe that overall they deserve my trust. I can't wait for season 2020.

You think sacking one of the best List Managers in the game, without a replacement, is in the best interests of the Club?
You think sacking one of the best full forwards in the game, without a replacement, is in the best interests of the Club?

Well in the case of Fevola, it certainly was. Why can't you see that there might be other factors at play here?

Purely as a list manager, yes SOS has barely put a foot wrong (apart from the yearly rookie draft/retread mistakes). But how do you know he hasn't caused issues/friction internally, whether that be with the coach, recruiting support staff or management?

You talk about Liddle's ego getting in the way, yet SOS himself has a well-documented ego, and clearly doesn't like nor respond well to being told what to do.

You're not seriously equating a player with the head of list management, probably the single most important position at a club, are you?

And we got a 1st round pick and Henderson (who we traded in for Harry McKay) for Fev. What have we got fro sacking SOS?

Deluca was a Bolton/coaching department desire, nothing to do with Liddle.

But you know, make it fit how you want.
Not sure how the coaching department would have been sufficiently across 2nd tier competitions to know the Deluca was the right selection. Pretty sure Coaches would have requested a ready made mid that would have immediate impact. Someone ( not looking at anyone Lloyd) would have had to sell Delcua to Bolts for him to push for a specific player.

Interestingly Deluca is salty because the was led to believe it was would be an 18 month opportunity. Can't see SOS making that sort of representation for a player he didn't want.

Hopefully we can get our act together moving forward.

I was using it as an example where removing someone, despite their obvious ability, can still be in the best interests of the club.

Thought that was fairly clear...

it's unfortunate all round, Deluca uproots his life to come to Melbourne only to be delisted 4 months later and we burn a number 1 mid season pick. I can't blame Deluca for feeling upset, he likely would have been selected by another club and would still be on an AFL list if we hadn't grabbed him.

OK, fair enough.
Doesn't seem to be the case with SOS though, while it was obvious with Fev
Yes I agree that it certainly doesn't seem to be the case with SOS. But given we don't know the full story, I feel that there must be things that have gone on behind the scenes to cause the club, as a whole, to resolve that moving forward without SOS was the right play.

It's a very emotive issue and I understand why people are upset, but I'm not going to hang the club for this decision until all the facts come to light.

Understandable.
I suppose the fact that the Club handled the sacking so poorly, and the interference from Liddle on some list management matters prior, points to the decision not being the right one.

Or there may be reasons why moving SOS on was the correct one.

Potentially, a more unified team from an operational perspective.
