Sorry, I mean we won't get one. Everyone could use a PP. It just seems like it'll be a futile exercise.

Yep...no harm asking though.. nothing lost in trying.

Extra always helps but we clearly don't deserve one this year.

We may apply for one just to lubricate our chances for next year in case season 2018 is a disaster.
One could contend we didn't deserve one last year, when our back of house was a shambles, we extended a coach only to sack him and the feeling was if we got a high pick we would only lose the player in two years.

We have got the back of house in order, fixed retention and the club is a happier place. We have been on the bottom for pretty well a decade, a PP would give us some real benefit now.

I suppose it depends on how you look at "deserve".

I guess Carlton would aswell, right?

I think all their rising star nominations might make things tougher. The Suns have lost a bunch of players and with Ablett leaving/retiring they're gonna struggle for a few years.

Plus they lost to us twice

Using the is system of 4 and half wins to create a priority pick shows would mean that we shouldn't ask. However, with the possibility of Rockliff leaving we should and it might just tip things our way for a better compensation.

Remember when Roos was lobbying for the Dees to get a priority pick a couple years ago?

You don't look back and mount a case an argument for a PP, you look forward and put forward the case.

Not surprisingly, Dees now have a nice future, despite not getting the PP. Brisb are in a similar position imo.

Yes and the Dees still asked for one in 2014... Looking forward, the case for, is securing and ensuring that there is a competitive future in a national competition in Qld...doesn't help their brand, at the end of the home and away season, to have both Qld teams at the bottom of the ladder...

i agree. the point is, a PP is useless if you can't draft talent and develop it.

Stephen Conole has been on record (Road to the Draft Podcast) saying how the footy department has been completely revamped in the last 12 months, and look what's happened, you've absolutely nailed the last draft.

Getting the footy department and talent development right is so much more important than a PP it's not even funny.

Lions have a nice team moving forward, they have access to an Academy and it seems they've finally sorted out their Football department. Absolutely no need for a PP. The time that it would've been reasonable to mount the case for a PP was that off-season when you lost Polec, Yeo, Docherty etc etc.

Yes we've got our Football department in order but that is still in its infancy period..that doesn't change that we should be asking for a PP to speed up the process to make the competition more competitive ...Being a competitive team will put bums on seats...and that's $'s into the AFL's coffers at the moment that aint happening..

We have finished 17th, 17th (should have been last, as Essendon's whole list was out) and 18th over the past 3 seasons.. with a total of 12 wins at an average of 67.6%.

I'd say that's a reasonable case for a PP. Whether or not we will get one, I doubt it.

Using this as concrete evidence we meet the criteria for a priority clearly. 4 or less wins a year over an extended period is the main criteria. We have finished bottom two years a row effectively! Add the need to be proactive with Qld footy and we are a chance to get another end of first round pick! This would be huge in setting us up and building a talent base at the club to work with. TBH we still have many blokes who aren't good enough and never will be. The likes of Harwood, C Beams, N Robbo despite improving, Bell, Jansen, Close-trade?, Bewick, Clayton,Dawson,Freeman, Barrett and most likely Paparone and poor Skinner due to injury. We have a big ? over Christensen too and whether he will get back from his shoulder.
I don't want to be negative Nancy but realistic Rob and we would all be sensible to keep perspective of where we are at.

Not to mention Lester, Walker, Smith and Frost due to injury..... That's 18 players

You will have pick 1 + pick 12-15 + pick 19 + Ballenden at a cheap price.

I think your rebuild is well and truly on track already, add in another 2-3 nice pieces from this draft and i reckon the Lions will be a very good team in the not too distant future.

So taking into account that we have 18 players on our list that aren't at AFL standard and our development through our revamped football department is still in its infancy .We're in agreement that being a good team is a way off...( minor correction it's pick 18 not 19 -GWS lost their 1st round pick). As yet we don't know Rocky's intentions and as what compensation that would get, should he decide his future is best served at another club ...So IMO we should be asking for a PP.

I didn't add Lester and Walker to the list as I can see them adding to the team as Bastinac has. I like what Walker has done in the last 10 weeks esp with contested marking and creating a link from backline transitions. He is worth another 2 years to see if he can get the consistency right. Lester adds to our culture and attitudes around the club and is seen as a leader and we need these standards desperately. Smith I also want to wait on for another 2 years just to see. Frost.... well he didn't even cross my mind as he is G O N E!

Pick 3 for Frawley was an AFL disguise for the PP. Frawley is not worth pick 3, so Melbourne got one in my book.

Well the whole opposition supporter rally against a pp has come full circle. First we were told to fix our off field first as another draft picks would do nothing if they just left, now we're being told that since we've fixed it we shouldn't get one. Regardless of whether you think we should or not that's pretty stupid circle of logic right there

Yep...I added them for that exact reason .....They fall under the time will tell...show glimpses but are inconsistent..

We have been the worst side by a fair way during the last 4-5 seasons. 12 wins in 3 years?

The basis of a pp was 4.5 wins over an extended period of time. We have been averaging less than that for an extended period.

We are only just starting to build back up after the massive player losses we copped a few seasons back. Guys like Docherty, Yeo and even Polec are now stars of the competition.

We should absolutely be asking for a pp. And on the basis of how it's given out we should get one
