The AFL is now entering a new era where stadium agreements and business models are the focus.
We have geelong and GC for example.

You are ignoring the real reason Tasmania was overlooked - that it does not add to TV rights equation - the reason why a third WA doesn't get anyone excited. I'd imagine that FNQ and NZ are generating more excitement in that regard atm.

Looking towards the future and forgetting the past the reality is Tasmania still has to do some hard yards.
They have to sell a self-sufficient business model, a boost to state Tourism and the ecomomy in general.
They have to mention Tasmania's past contribution but also mention that lack of a national team could see interest wane over time. They have to mention that a new Tasmanian team allows for the addition of a 20th team to expand the market. They have to mention that the addition of a new Tasmainian team dilutes the power of the big AFL clubs and adds to equalisation. But most of all Tasmania have to play hard ball with the current situation.

If we were to see the introduction of a Tasmanian side as a 19th or 20th addition then this would mean an additional game in Tasmania every fortnight and an additional game in Melbourne every month. This could be the impetus for a boutique stadium arrangement in that city.

.

As far as that goes I doubt that the GC would either. They had a fairly solid southern expat population that would have watched the AFL on TV anyway.
It surely doesnt all get down totally to the TV rights?, as important as we all know they are.
Tassie has a large diaspora living around the country. I would think that a Tassie team would be well received around the country. IMO It makes for a more complete national competition having more of the real heartland represented.
Conversely I think having the two FIFO renta clubs is a poor look for the AFL. It make the league clubs look like a travelling circus, looking for handouts to survive.
I'm sure the AFL would really be looking to change that negative image. Sending teams to play in FNQ is developmental & a sensible move. Having two FIFO clubs coming down here is just ridiculous, it is a true footy heartland, not new territory. But it needs servicing like other areas are. Its no different to a large Melbourne suburb. It has a history & a passion for the game. Demitriou said GWS had a 'right' to have a team, well if that is so, then we bloody well do to!!!!
The recently announced 'desire' for one team to play 8 games a season here is the second shot in that direction. The first being the original North Melbourne venture which had 7 games attached to it. The Hawks beat that off but the AFL dont give up easily.
Anyway the sooner we get a move in the right direction, the better.

Actually you wouldn't, all you'd see is 11 games in Tasmania during the Home & Away season.

I know for a fact the Tasmanian government have a get out clause in their sponsorship and ground deal with Hawthorn, this stipulates that if a Tasmanian club is granted a licence then the Tasmania government can terminate the agreement. I would find it difficult to believe that a similar deal would not also exist with North Melbourne.

So all we'd see if there was a new Tasmanian side is 11 games in Tasmania?
That'd be approximately every fortnight.
What happenned to the away games?
It'd work in the same manner as what happens with the Swans, GC or any other interstate based team.

You'd actually find a reasonable Victorian based membership immediately. There are a lot of expat Tasmanians who would happily support a truely Tasmanian team by buying a Victorian away membership, relocate North Melbourne there and they won't.
