The change of AFL rights

OMG
It is just starting to set in about bloody channel 9 and 10 having AFL rights for the next 5 years. I don't know about you but I am soo accustomed to turning on the TV on a weekend to watch an AFL footy show, or the great game itself on our sports channel 7. I have never been a great fan of channel 9,10 or Eddie Maguire for that case but it really angers me that after what is it 45 years of AFL coverage on Channel 7 the rights have gone to 9,10 and foxtel under the massive deals laid down by Telstra, Murdoch, Qantus and News CORP~!
OUCH I can't bear the thought of having to listen to pretty boy Maguire commentating say an Eagles vs Collingwood GAME. IN steps McAvaney. I know he isn't the best commentator, well in my opinion is LUVES

What a traitor, and stay with 7 for the Commonwealth GAMES!
OK now i am getting sidetracked, I am just still really furious that after 45 years of fantastic coverage on 7, the AFL dropped 7 because 9 and 10 could offer a larger pay packet. $100 million a year to be precise.
It's a fickle thing money ........

You are kidding right ?

Channel Seven is a disgrace to sports broadcasting - they simply refuse to broadcast the national game into Sydney or Brisbane and as for your part of the world - well they might show a lot of games but the overall quality and tone of the coverage is absolutely shocking.

Wait till next year PlaceboGirl - the standard of coverage will be so much better with the new consortium that the only question you will be asking yourself is why didn't this happen 15 years ago ?

Seven's treatment of this truly great game is an absolute disgrace, truly - they just MANGLE it, year in year out.

Cheap, nasty, gormelssly stupid, and mildly patronising - thats what Seven has served up for the last 45 years - nothing but pap.

If you don't beleive me - think back to what Kerry Packer / Channel Nine did to Cricket 25 years ago - they completely transformed the game into the spectacle it is today.

they will do the same with footy - and at last we will have Televison coverage that will match the quality of the sport itself.

Trust me - it will happen.

I actually agree with Kate on this one i think that the rights to the AFL coverage should be with 7.
Its stupid giving it to more than one commercial television station.

At one stage I didn't like the idea that nine and ten won the rights for footy.But now I have changed my mind. Im in Queensland at the moment and we don't get any coverage at all. Maybe next year it will change. I am going to miss two games that the eagles play and I don't like missing any games. But couldn't miss my sons wedding.

the prob is, wa country is gonna miss out on 3 games a week!
that is why i am pissed
it's ok for the city folk, they get the right treatment but 9 and 10 have once again forgotten to think about us country fans
i go to all the wce matches but for me to watch say ess vs coll that is gonna be not on Tv for us next year with the consortorium

i am so glad their giving it to the consortium.

Channel 7, are average at best. The could do so much more for the most popular code of football in the country.

But just wait till digital TV comes in, it will be aswesome.
You'll be able to watch any game you want at any time you want to from whatever angle you want with any commentator you want to.

By 2010, it will be about as common as a computer is today, by 2015, it will be like a telephone is today.
