Lighten up mate, I was having a joke

But in all seriousness though, I don’t see any difference in a chip to an out of position player (Freeman) compared to a long bomb to the hotspot where we are outnumbered 2 to 5.... Both are shit, yet we do one of those options 80% of the time we go inside 50, it’s been in our game plan for 4 years & looking at our results, I’d say it doesn’t work....
Hard to tell these days.

I rewatched some of the Melbourne game recently, and the way we ran in waves and moved the ball that day was fantastic. There was always someone running next to the player with the ball so they could combine. We didnt bomb it long all day, actually hit up forwards who were leading to different parts of the forward line. Why cant we do that every bloody week.

Apologies for interrupting. A poster on our board has posted this:

"Paul Roo’s has a massive offer from the Saints.

Mitchell and Ratten included

All heading to Saints.

Similar deal to Melbourne transition."

I was wondering if people at the Saints end have heard anything?
Was sort of hoping Mitchel would come to us as an assistant.
I'd do that in a heart beat

It doesn't make sense to me, Paul Roos has stated while criticising Boltons situation at Carlton that he wouldn't coach anywhere unless he could assemble his own team... so why would Ratten and Mitchell be packaged up at this point in time?
Fake news for me... probably straight from Trumps Twiiter feed.
Probably! But we are so starved of good news around here
we will bar up over anything!
Just like an imported exotic cheese these fake news have the ability to excite us one moment....
only to send us straight to the shitter the next!

Isn't it up to the person disposing of the ball to pick the best option? Team mates just provide options & draw defenders?

They did but he's the only guy calling because we are mutes so they look at him first. He looks more like an on field boss than any one else.

How about a free hot dog with next year's membership?
I'd be excited by that...
and a 'bring your dog' game... maybe V's GWS. I have always wondered what sort of atmosphere 5 thousand pooches would create under the docklands roof.:D

So what about Brett Ratten? Leaving Hawthorn at end of season to seek a new opportunity, only coached at 50.4% at Carlton but six years under Clarkson you would think would improve that.
In comparrison Richo’s coaching record is 37.1%
Reckon he is about the only one available on the market.
Problem is typically those worth their salt aren't let go by clubs.

Well there you have it. The great paradox of footy. Just when you thought character was the deal-breaker comes the news that good people do bad things.

All-round nice guy Richo turns out to be a record-breaking basket-case in coaching tactics while reassuring the faithful that we're all looking forward to the next opportunity to fix everything. (Obviously "fixing" is the key term here.)

If Richo was devious and dubious enough to tank our way to draft riches (and most importantly get away with it) he might just garner enough street cred to be a bastard and win us a ******* flag.

Jesus, is it that bad? I'm in Ireland and follow as close as I can...but you've mentioned this a couple of times. A team that isn't communicating will NEVER succeed. Do they even get on with each other enough to have an understanding of what is required from one another? It's pretty disturbing. Maybe Richo hasn't lost the players...maybe the players have lost each other.

Well if pick 4 doesn't get us a great player, let alone a good player, then it will be the piss weakest super-duper draft in living memory
Mate I am sorry to do this but … 2001 was the last superdraft
Pick 1 - Luke Hodge
Pick 2 - Luke Ball
Pick 3 - Chris Judd
Pick 4 - Graeme Polak
Just what we need … the next Graeme Polak!

Seriously though, the last ten pick 4's look pretty good overall

Hamish Hartlett (best 22)
Anthony Morabito (injury bust)
Andrew Gaff (star but a little on the punchy side)
Will Hoskin-Elliot (best 22)
Jimmy Toumpas (got Melbourned)
Marcus Bontempelli (star)
Jarrod Pickett (highly rated but currently being Carltoned)
Clayton Oliver (star)
Ben Ainsworth (still developing but looks similar to WHE levels)
Luke Davies-Unicorn (young but look good)

Chance of a star: 30%
Chance of a best 22: 45%
Chance of a complete bust: 25%

Decent odds. Our form here is good too. Although we have never picked at 4, we did trade Shane Waiklen for pick 4. We then ontraded that pick for Aaron Hamill - and Carlton eventually selected Luke Livingston with that pick (even back then they had no idea how to draft).

Not sure what that all means, so given the thread I am in I will just sign off with 'sack Richo before he turns Sam Walsh into Graeme Polak'

They seem chummy together off field just selecting nice shy kids doesn't stack us with loud alpha types. The dome s really easy to hear players when empty and we are always talking less than other teams. Sydney for example are always talking and directing each other.

If we send pick 4 or whatever we get to the swans thatll be me done
It'd want to be Pick 4 and a 4th for Hannebery and Florent or I'll join you
Yep. First pick; use it, trade it, swap it. Whatever.

But this is the "super draft" and we have a "super pick". At the end of the day whatever we do with it we must have added a gun to our list. An absolute gun. A young, fit, healthy, potentially 12 years+ gun.

Older, risky players can be part of any deal, but that young fit gun is a non-negotiable

Unfortunately I don't think anything will be done.

The club bought in Simon after his scandal and even if he thinks the place is up shit creek and Finnis and Co need to go, he won't make that call. Why would he spit in the faces of the people who employed him.

We aren't going anywhere fast.

see i dont think you do trav. i think you are a very loyal type. the club could finish last every year for the next 10 and you'll still be there. you'll still volunteer and be as involved with the club as you can. that's not a knock, its a compliment. you are very loyal and i think you are more accepting of it and will defend it more than others on here. we need more like you. - i am very critical of the club , i voice many many concerns but i tend to direct them to the club itself not openly on an internet forum... yes I'm rusted on ill be there for my club til the death but im not above passing on critisism to the club where i differ perhaps is in the situations where we F**k it up instead of banging on about the f**k up i try and find a way to promote the club in spike of the F**k up ...

i'd rather you leave and go quietly, just dont say anything bad about the club. that's a big issue right there. its essentially censorship on any criticism. there's a whole host of reasons why that should never happen in any shape or form in society.- its not censorship on criticismits more you have made your decision and fair enough but be mindful of how you leave and who you take with you

So we should go into the game with a mentality of rolling over and expecting a thrashing. This is the reason why the club is like it is. It starts from members accepting mediocrity year after year.

We should be going into this game saying that any loss isn't acceptable let along getting smacked.
not that at all ... the thing is we are expected to lose and lose big time ..that presents the oportunity to respond and play beyond the expectation and give them a real run for thier money ... the issue i think that is all too common is we enter a game we are expected to lose and when we do everyone loses their head like they were expecting us to win big ... losing sucks regardless of if its expected or not but how you respond to it is interesting

Given the result of the game, maybe Freeman was in a better position to receive the ball & the academy coach guy knows sweet **** all...
unlikely looking at what he was saying it was pretty clear Freeza was in the wrong spot and had we passed to him every time he called he would have got 40 possesions but not one would have been effective and would have resulted in a turn over ... the other option taken wasnt executed properly and resulted in the turn over but was the right choice if executed right , the freeza options in most cases would have been a turnover even if executed correctly ..
but its game one ... Freeza will learn from it
