"Dear Jonathon,

Great to hear you support the club's stance with Nick Stevens. It has been a real boost to hear the overwhelmingly positive response we've had to our decision.

As you have probably read or heard by now, the club was not offered an adequate trade by Collingwood after we learned via Nick's manager on Thursday that it was the only club we could deal with. Given that, we decided to not accept the meager offer and instead let Stevens go into the pre-season draft for no return in order to make a statement that we will not be manipulated by players, their managers, or opposition clubs. Nick is one of the comp's premier midfielders and we would have liked a return for him but given the circumstances we are happy with our decision."

Second paragraph was a bit of "Well, duh..." but there sure must've been a huge outcry from fans yestee.

Yeah, I got a similar one.

Not upset by getting a form message though, getting any kind of reply is better than nothing (unless you are talking to Collingwood).

That is wonderful of Port to write back. I wrote a similar letter to Ian Dicker when Jade Rawlings first announced he was going to leave.

Havent heard back though. :(

Well done Port Power for looking after the fans who bother to write!!!

FWIW, I think the club should be applauded for its stance and it will change how players, managers and other clubs look at trades in the future. Max Stevens was less than honest on 3AW during the week stating that Stevens was prepared to go to a host of Victorian clubs when really they were only going for Collingwood.

Was suprised that they sent something back, even if it was a "blanket" type email.

I got a letter back as well. It seems maybe we all did.

Maybe the Club really did appreciate the immediate response which showed them the way to go.

Thanks to the Porthos for making it so easy ( I think he was the thread starter) and a big thank you to all the non Port supporters for their support.

The story was in The Age today, and stated that over 100 Port supporters contacted the club to congratulate them on their stance. Their were only 2 letters that said they should have accepted whatever they could get. One of these was probably written by Max Stevens.

Neil Kerley was also in The Age, describing Nick Stevens as a woosy mummys' boy(not his words but his intention). He was saying Kane Cornes was champing at the bit to get at Nick. No way, the Roach will get first go.

Bwahaha.. they had the same thing in the Herald Sun. I cut it out and stuck it to the side of my computer screen (complete with devil horns on the picture of Nick) :D

Not a Port supporter, dont mock me Port fans but I follow the Pies, but it is good to see the club take a stance and then also show their thanks to their supporters even if it was a blanket email reply. Personally not unhappy that Collingwood didnt get Stevens, yes he is a good player but KPP should be rated more highly than midfielders IMO and 500K is a large figure, that should be reserved I think for the premier midfielders. Off the track abit but why all the wraps on K Cornes, I know I havent seen alot of him but looks just your average run of the mill AFL player, and possibly only a run with player too.

For similar reasons as to why there are big wraps on Didak despite his only being a half forward flanker that fades in and out of games. Its not his likely final position.

Had a huge pre-season this year and we were all hoping for big things, but his year probably didn't go as planned. Having a broken hand probably threw a spanner in the works and seeing as he's only 20, he's got a long career ahead of him. You can't be a star every year.
