For my mine, I can't picture Malthouse hiring a prospective AFL coach like Burns or Bassett. Don't know if he would be comfortable in the club signing off on this after the last succession plan didn't work out as an assistant. Someone who reportedly has an ego wouldn't be in favour of that. I can't see Ling and Jakovich being viewed as a successor (or threat) if Malthouse doesn't work out. Hope my cynicism is just that and proven to be incorrect.

Comments stun Richardson
"In respect to Mick Malthouse's statements today, Alan Richardson is bemused and extremely disappointed," said Richardson's manager Gerard Sholly, of Focus Sports Management. "Alan Richardson was, in fact, offered a contract extension at the time [by Collingwood] but due to his ambition to coach a team in his own right he sought other opportunities elsewhere, which landed him at the Essendon Football Club."

"I don't sack people [from a] football club I haven't signed with. What say have I got?" he said on 3AW. "I'm not employed by the Carlton Football Club."

Malthouse insisted that blame for the sackings "can hardly put on top of someone else's head".

Shame about Harris, was a substitute teacher at Wodonga Primary School where his dad was vice/senior principal and had my classes for a couple months one year. Really good development/ teacher role he's a natural.

He also needs to give my dad his Wodonga Raiders tie back too.

Should go after Scarlett.

Yes and yes! He gets an awful lot of credit from Geelong teammates for the success they've had.

I'd also like the club to throw some coin at Nathan Bassett. It's been reported that he will leave Norwood for an AFL assistants role in 2013, rumoured to be Hawthorn. Let's get him on board. I don't get the Malthouse self-preservation comments and we really believed that then I shudder to think of having a senior coach with such a hiring policy. Reckon having Mick could be a pull for someone like Fred who is wanting to learn the caper.

Maltouse a guarantee....
Already working with some of the clubs personel...

I know (99%) that, but have to leave it open until the formalities are over.
The guy may have a hearter just before signing on the bottom line. :)

I hope we can announce the press conference for tomorrow, today.
Let's get the starting point cleared.

EDIT: No sooner do I write this and guess what: 10 am tomorrow morning.

Would have been signed last year but had to stand out of coaching an oppclub for 12 months. Y u think it took so long to give Ratts a new deal.

From what I understand, this is correct.
The club was caught between a rock and a hard place with not being able to appoint Malthouse and knowing Roos was not going to make himself available until 2014.

The question comes back as why did we then appoint Ratten for 2 years?
What would have we been saying had have we appointed him for only one year?
Sounds like an easy solution but practically, it just is not. I'd say we had a pretty good idea that we may have to burn some money on this one.

O'Bree on Malthouse coach radar

FORMER Collingwood on-baller Shane O’Bree has emerged as a leading candidate to join new Carlton coach Mick Malthouse in a revamped Blues support staff.

O’Bree, 33, is headed back to Melbourne after just two seasons as an assistant-coach at the Gold Coast under Guy McKenna.

O’Bree is expected to take charge of Carlton’s blue chip midfield battery working directly with superstar on-ballers Chris Judd, Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbs.

Hmmm, not sure about this one. What could O'Bree possibly teach Judd? At least you would want someone that Judd hadn't played and excelled against.

Happy with the prospect of Ling, happy with Malthouse having his 'Riley' with Wiley. Would prefer he didn't surround himself with West Coast and Collingwood people like jobs for the boys. Jakovich and O'Bree the ones I am referring to here. He should at least meet with other possibilities.

It is better than surrounding himself with recently retired Carlton players which Ratts did and later had to undo

So is Lingy out of the picture now?

Not really.
We've learnt not to believe everything one says in football.

Sometimes we just seem to want to hear a yes or a no, but there's always quite a bit to be played out when head-hunting.
This may actually take a little time to orchestrate

Only want to hear a yes regarding Lingy. But am ready for dashed hopes. This season has taught me much in that regard.:(

It's a little overstated. Lappin yes, Bradley yes, Williams wasn't official. Nobody else really. Had Riley, Crosisca, Capuano, Montgomery, Harvey, Richardson, Brown, Barker. There was just an illusion of surrounding himself with Blues players because of Sticks and then McKay being around the club.
