Apparently Sportsnewsfraud is set to reveal that Bernie Lomax is to be our new development coach.
May be easier to have a thread on our coaching group and as to what is and may be happening.
Possible incomings:
Mick Malthouse
Cameron Ling
Robert Wiley
Glenn Jackovich
Shane O'Bree
I reckon Chris Judd would be happy to see Rob Wiley on the coaching team. See Sig
Pretty sure McKay will be calling all the shots, likely with MM's concent. He's been very close to everything that has gone on all year coaching wise. I get the feeling he's basically been in a year long investigation of our off field department. McKay will cull who he feels should go, MM will bring who he can and that's what we will end up with. If MM doesn't like the job any of the other assistants do then they will be gone for 2014. Really hard for MM to make any calls regards player and staff cutting.Mick on 3AW tonight had a few comments about the coaches. Said he wasn't making the call on the coaches that are at Carlton, that the people already there know them better than he does.
He said he has a certain structure (that has no senior assistant) and that the club needs to fill those positions, except that he definitely wants Rob Wiley.
LinkRobert Wiley, who worked with Malthouse at West Coast and lives in Perth, yesterday said he was interested in joining the Blues, most likely as a development coach. He coached the West Australian under-16 team this year and is also involved in a lucrative lighting business with former Eagle Phil Matera.
It is understood he may want any salary with the Blues to reflect what he would be giving up.
''I have spoken to Michael. There certainly is some interest there, but I haven't really sat down with Carlton,'' Wiley said.
''Nothing has further progressed from that. Nothing is definite.''
To me it seems we will pay/do anything at the moment to give us the best chance of a premiership in the next 3 years... it's almost as though the club thinks that since we havn't tasted success since 95, the 3 wooden spoons, the penalties and failure in 2012 is bad for business... and you know what they're right! You've gotta spend money to make money (eg: facilities, more coaching dept funds)... We're putting a lot of eggs in the Malthouse basket so lets hope it works...
Exactly our membership number no matter how you put it are Bad! When Richmond have more members, Hawthorn who by their standards in the late 90's to early naughties we're not flash and almost folded are now almighty, Essendon who bar the salary cap restrictions have been on par with us since 2003..It certainly seems that way, jj.
You just get the impression that certain benefactors were willing to chip in under certain proviso's and the coach was well on top of that list.
I do though think that Membership numbers will be very critical for us next year.
Swann has already indicated just how disappointed he was in this years numbers (and so he should be) and anything short of 50K next year is a non-negotiable.

Dont forget the media are gutter dwellers ODN.Hmm, Wiley is Mick's choice right? It is not directly quoted but that line about his salary to reflect what he is giving up is a little concerning. It has to be worth his while but I assume he wants to coach, not merely doing it for the cash. I reckon it is a great opportunity we are giving him as well. I just hope Mick's mates are seeing this as a big opportunity to hold out for cash and the figures we pay are reasonable. I hate how the media throw in potentially controversial lines like that.
