and wants only one midfield coach, not two.
Thank **** for that!

What a shambles that was, went from being the second best clearance and contested ball winning team to being beaten every week and having no idea about the transition from clearance to open play. At times I wondered whether Riley and Williams had been introduced yet.

May have been the coaches but it might have been the fact that Carazzo and then Murphy had long spells injured.

I did hear Wayne Carey on radio on the weekend talking about the possibility of returning to a specialist coaching role if asked. He said it would be something he would definitely consider, I think as a 1 day a week role working with Levi, Squidda and even Hammer it would do them the world of good.

To clarify the structural changes, it seems Mick doesn't want/need a senior assistant, and wants only one midfield coach, not two.

I like the idea of having only one mid-field coach.
Williams worked very hard with the boys, but again it's possible that there were mixed messages between Riley and himself.

Doesn't need a senior assistant? That will save us money for a start and gives the impression that Malthouse will be pretty hands on.
It should sound good but I have some mixed feelings about it.

The name Carey has been bandied about in the last week, so he goes into the possibles.

Carey has been a big dropkick off the field but has achieved a lot with his one on one tutoring of up and coming players. IMO his past means nothing when considering him as an assistant coach. Had a lot to do with turning Fev and Cloke from players with potential into gun players. I've always felt we've been negligent in our development of talls with some players never learning how to compete one on one and never learning the tricks of a forward. One name stands out for mine, Kreuzer. Would be all for Carey being involved with developing our talls and being involved with our forward line.

Scarlett has just retired, Would be a good get. Straight out of football, leader, aledged instigator in his teams success from the best club of the last 6 years. Also defenders appear to be the ones who make the better coaches. Would be good to have a Geelong influence at Carlton, has worked well for most other clubs.

Other clubs personnel that I would be targeting are Sydney, WCEs and Hawthorn. Already have plenty of Collingwood influences.

I would love to get Carey and Scarlett in to the club. Scarlett doesn't really need justification, but I think Carey is the best at developing tall forwards, something we desperately need.

I just hope that pride and arrogance don't cause us to miss out on an opportunity to get Carey who has loads to offer, especially our club which has a lot of young tall players. Hasn't he and Malthouse both been with 3AW this year?

It would be negligent to not enquire about Scarlett, fairly sure someone will be onto it.

I reckon it'll be more of a specialist sort thing like someone has mentioned before, just coming in once or twice a week. News is Scarlett is going to be playing in the Geelong Football League next year, as a forward too i might add.

Fair enough. Not only do they require a payout if they are to go, but they need to maintain currency and try to pick up another role. If Ratten got the Port job for example, I feel sure that he would have a place for Riley and probably Williams as well. They need too know where they stand. Better still for the two of them, they could offer services for free at the Blues expense, just to get a foot in the door.

Time to ante up Bruce and Jeanne. You wanted the change, see it through.

Seriously thats piss poor by the club. Haven't liked how most of this has been handled at all, if you don't want them...tell em and pay em out.....what are 5 year olds running the show down there?

As someone above said, you wanted the change, now see it through in a professional manner.

Geelong brought Carey in to work with Hawkins when he was struggling last July.
Yes please get him to Carlton

Before we get too ahead of ourselves, maybe we're just hedging our bets.
Do we really know when the assistant coaches contracts run out and have we an obligation to advise them before that time?

We may well be doing everything legally correct, but the fact that the guys are asking questions, we should be doing things morally correct.
Assistant coaches come and go and it seems to me that we haven't been able to reel in the ones we wanted and are just hanging on, in case. Not great either way.

Coaches are contracted. we're under no obligation to tell them anything before the end of 2013. If we're going to fire them, we're going to fire them. Otherwise they serve out their contract. Storm in a teacup.

Why would they be employing solicitors then?
I don't know the body of such contracts but there must be something involved that now has them jumping up and down and demanding answers.

You don't employ legals, just because you don't know what you're doing next year. I wouldn't think so.

As much as everyone would love Scarlett to be a assistant coach, he is the sort of bloke who will go back and play bush footy with his mates, spend more time with his family and maybe attend a couple of Geelong home games each year.
