We told them the coaching structure would change, so be aware that they might be out of a job, which is a courtesy.
Looks like a decision hasn't been made yet, which is fair enough, seeing as our coach was appointed a massive 3 days ago.
If they've got contracts (which I'm sure they do) they'll be paid out if we sack them. I reckon it's a bit early to bring in the lawyers.

We are keeping Riley but not as midfield - sounds to me like we are hoping this encourages him to move on as he is on too much coin to pay out?
No news on Barker?Apparently, there is a clause in their contracts that say if there is a change of coach, then they get paid out for three months if the club terminates their services. Also seems that we will retaining Riley and definitely are getting rid of Williams.
Absolutely IMO
Dont have to pay him out if he breaks the contract himself. Apparently not happy with the demotion and some interest from the Gold Coast. From a business perspective its a shrewd move. Carlton can effectively say we still wanted him but he left anyway.
Used to love that guy at Princes Park. Had a great arm. Probably the fielding coach for Australia now.Give him the job on the boundary line selling peanuts...

Because they have contracts that say they should?Given that Ratts got the sack, I am not sure why any of the assistant coaches would think they should be Coaching at Princes Park next year. Surely they should take some responsibility for the failure of this season.
Something about Jakovich and dim going well together.Because they have contracts that say they should?
It's tawdry to try to screw assistants with valid contracts. The club's just paid out big bucks for Ratten and Malthouse. The assistants would be on peanuts by comparison. Pay them their entitlements, stay on good terms and be done with it.
For all we know Ling, Jakovich, etc. have taken a dim view of this aspect of the coaching change and made their decisions accordingly. Hopefully this stuff doesn't put off any other prospects - players as well as coaches.

I understand that there's still some posturing going down in respect to our assistants.
May need to clear the air there first before any further announcements.
I am not saying they should not get whatever their contracts entitled them to, but if it says you only get paid 3 months if there is a change of coach, then that is all you are entitled to. My comment was more around the fact that they should not have been suprised they would not be required next season.
I would be more than happy to get Luke Power as a midfield coach.
