Strikes me as an odd way to announce an addition to our coaching panel, but that's mere semantics.

Sounds like a man with a heap of experience in the area, which will serve us well. Having an established close relationship with Mick is a real bonus. From memory, Juddy credits Wiley with a heap of his development as a junior so it'll be exciting to see that partnership re-ignited once more.

Article also confirms the departure of both Paul Williams and Alan Richardson.

Welcome Rob :thumbsu:

I'm still trying to work out what the different colours and so on mean in the original post. I know that we have Malthouse, but what's the status with Ling? Everything I hear suggests that he'll be a great coach and I'd love to get him to the club.

Not 100% certain of this but I'm sure I remember reading he is staying in the media (look back a few pages should be here).

Green means GO (Confirmed)

Ling is a no go. Striking out the names that have been either adopted or aborted.
(According to crane6, Ling was more than interested but had an about face and decided to stick it out in the media for at least another year)

Caro on Footy Classified said that Carlton was trying to make Reilly break his contract by demoting him and getting him to walk out of pique, thus avoiding a payout. She said that he had offers from elsewhere.

I think he was a good servant of the Carlton FC and seems to be being treated shabbily, but I guess I am not privy to what is going on there. I hope they don't shaft him.

Interesting that in the footnote about Richardson and Williams being "advised to pursue their careers elsewhere" (sakced!) there was no word of appreciation of their services at Carlton. Struck me as unusual and more than a little remiss.
Pretty shitty of the club really. All this nickel & diming after the money they've blown changing the senior coach is misplaced.

Rob Wiley on SEN:

  • Currently in Kalgoorlie.
  • Wiley happy to work at such a proud club as Carlton and excited to be working with Malthouse again.
  • Role will be to administer the coaching and development programs. Role similar to what Malthouse would have being doing at Collingwood should have he remained.
  • Going to Arizona with the boys. (Good idea. :thumbsu:)
  • Coaching is now more about working together than to just tell players what to do.
  • On Mark Riley: Wiley has no control over what will happen to him. Riley currently on sick leave.
  • No talk of top 4, but just for the players to be in the best position to deliver their best, individually and for the club.
  • Did get approached by Mick when at Collingwood on a couple of occasions, but timing not right.
Bartlett diverted the conversation to discussing the West in general and the make up of the AA team. Boring.

Cheers Harks. .. Wonder if that clashes with McKay's role. .? Must admit I didn't fully understand Andy's role, so. ..

Congrats on getting Wiley. He is a club legend at West Coast. Played a massive role in shaping the culture of our club over an extended period as a player, runner and coach.

Great read, just the type of coach we need. Hopefully this is the quality we look to add to some of those gaps we currently have. Many great unsung potential assistant coaching types in wafl and safl, I love a lot of the ex current players straight into coaching but some of these older guys would be awesome if given a shot. This guy is a great call.
