-4 this morning here in Canberra. Generally I don't mind the minuses it doesn't feel as cold as 1 or 2 degrees, but this morning was so cold I was shivering until midday.

And only a few months ago we were sweltering in 42 degrees.
ABC weather said was -7.7 apparent temp on Monday. Beats the fudge out of the heat.

Any Adelaide ppl here?
Looks like you have had quite a chilly start to winter.

Yep. It has been a little on the crisp side the last few mornings at just under 3 degrees (feeling like about 1.something). It was cold enough to see my breath in front of me when I was walking down to the shops yesterday morning.

Thats colder than here so far.
Its 16c and sunny here today lol

They predicted 5 degrees here for this morning but there was cloud cover and it was nowhere near that cold, lucky for me as I had to get up early!

Settling in to day after day of low to mid teens now in Melbourne. Not too bad really.

Only four times in the last four decades has Adelaide shivered through three mornings below three in June. Or you could just say it's the coldest start to winter on record, in terms of nights. However the timing of these three mornings coinciding with the start of winter is more by chance than anything else.

But why has it been so cold every morning?

The second in a pair of cold fronts swept across South Australia on Tuesday, leaving a cold airmass in its wake. Since Wednesday, a high pressure system been producing clear skies and light winds, allowing temperatures to plummet overnight, yet producing near-average days.

The last three nights have been especially cold because the high is focused just to the east of Adelaide, allowing those light winds to be coming from the land, rather than the humid ocean, where temperatures are in the mid teens.

Tonight and Sunday night will both be very cold as well, with the run of nights below three potentially continuing. Those living further inland of Adelaide will again have a substantial frost risk as temperatures drop near freezing.

Pretty remarkable, considering the all time record low for Adelaide is -0.4

Our last five mornings have been -4.5, -0.7, -4.2, -5.1 and -4.2.
And our next seven mornings are all forecast to be below zero as well.

At this time of year it's always nice to see our pollies being interviewed outside the house for the morning breakfast shows, Canberra's mornings are generally at their coldest around 7am.:)

I rather put up with a bit of heat than have the head f*** of snow. It looks pretty, but practically it's just a pain in the arse.
Me and a mate got caught in a snowstorm driving from Toronto to Baltimore.

The 8~ hour drive took us like 15 hours because of it.

It's been pretty cold in Adelaide. It was 0 degrees at home yesterday morning, and the car was covered in ice, which is surprising considering I'm only a stone throw from the beach. Where my mother lives in the SA Riverland was minus 5 over night.

No complaints from me, I'll take this weather any day over 35+

Only 4 degrees when I got up this morning. That's cold for Melbourne but when I lived in country Victoria -4 was a regular occurrence.

Yeah the further away from water the colder it gets.
Which is why Hobart (and Melbourne) rarely goes under 0 (at sea level) but inland it gets really cold.
Think the last two mornings were around 3 degrees.
