The earth is tilted at 23.5 degrees on its axis. As it goes round the sun in 365 days the hemisphere that is tilted towards the sun gets more sun and gets hotter, hence summer. The hemisphere that gets less sun gets colder and has winter. That's not going to change for millions of years. But within the nature of the seasons there's a huge amount of variability for what the weather does each year.

One weird thing is that plants and animals seem to know the seasons regardless of the weather. My apple trees looked dead then sprung to life when it was still pretty chilly. Birds seem to migrate at the time of year not the weather. Many aquatic creatures have seasonal cycles of migration and reproduction. I don't think the oceans change so much between seasons - so I wonder if they sense something else.

It's the length of the days that trigger the plants and other animals to do their seasonal things. Deciduous trees will lose their leaves as the days get shorter regardless of the actual temperature at the time.

I was colder the previous weekend compared to the weekend just gone. Have started to wear a jumper, but still in shorts.

Haven't turned the heater on yet. Will see if I can get through May without needing to. Usually have done so by now. A few years ago the earliest it was used was mid April.

rain went away sunday so great weather to use the firepit :handok:
Me and the father in law had to install a pool fence (around a ****ing spa no less) did it Saturday thankfully and the concrete set before the rain hammered down all night and most of Sunday morning.

was a bit cold yesterday arvo when I was outside doing some work

checked the temp 6 but feels like 2

yep that will do it

still shorts weather if you're active enough though

Been freezing here in Hobart last two days.
2 degrees both mornings but felt lower with wind chill.

Now feel like I'm getting the man flu 🤧

Weekend was bitterly cold.
We had quite the hail run. Not a big storm dump over 10 minutes that is normally the way for lots of hail, but consistent for over an hour and really small hailstones that looked more like snow from a distance. The way the hail cobered things was a lot more even and snow-like than the usual hailstorm. But, all hail.

Bump for the new winter...

I've got a draft coming through where my dog-door insert is, it sucks. I usually much prefer cold to heat, but this is driving me crazy. I'll need to find a solution tomorrow.

Went and picked up some tea with my partner earlier and it was freezing. Winter is here.
