Most teams lift when they are playing Collingwood because:

1. It's the game in the season where the other team make the most money. Teams like WB and Melbourne rely on our supporters to give them one decent gate

2. it's the only game in the year that gets opposition supporters talking about the other team.

3. It's the only game that the other teams are involved in all year that Demetriou will attend.

4. It's the only game all year that that they will be featured on the back page of the HUN.

The list goes on and on....

Yes it does seem that teams lift against us but I always think our players should lift just as much when they pull on a mighty COLLINGWOOD jumper , have that mentality .

In reality we have dealt with it for years. I remember when Malthouse said we suffered from blockbuster fatigue, and it is actually true to an extent.

This is Brisbane's grand final, always has been. We seem to have struggled against them recently, so hoping we come out with hunger and determination.

All true, something I've believed for years. Tigers in the naughties used to do it, I reckon they played 5G better when they played the Pies. Other team supporters hate the Pies so why wouldn't this translate to opposition players and give them a percent or two more edge? I think it's a particularly Victorian club thing though, and might be the reason why until 2010, we had never beaten a Victorian team in a final since 1990.

One other thing that tends to support this to notice how many teams beat the Pies but then go on to lose the following week. It's almost an anticlimax for them, Hawks and Blues this year case in point.

Yep as I expected. They'll suddenly play like superstars and be branded a premiership threat as a result.

Nathan would have a particular disdain for Brisbane more than any other side so I'm hoping that he gets the boys in the right mode for this game.

The Dogs almost beating you shows how bad Collingwood are. You will be down the bottom in no time.

I remember John Longmire would always kick a bag against us, and generally do **** all for the rest of the season. Can probably put Brad Miller into that group as well.

Fremantle/West Coast lift for Derbies. They don't lift against Collingwood.
Adelaide/Port Adelaide lift for Showdowns. They don't lift against Collingwood.
Sydney just see Collingwood as another opponent.

true but a lot of Vic teams do, Carlton, Essendon, Melbourne, Bulldogs (as we saw on Friday), even Brisbane as well.

Also Adelaide have played well against us recently.

it's not as obvious these days with the new teams and lack of history, but as SS says, it's more the traditional Victorian teams and stems from the "everyone hates Collingwood syndrome"

Almost always happens.

Watch Brisbane. Played like shit against the Bombers and even worse against Geelong. They'll come out and play like Brownlow medallists against us.

Guaranteed.

Brian Lake and Giansiracusa had done nothing for 2 seasons. Suddenly they both play like superstars, get f**ked.

Haha. So true. You are spot on my man. Just watch Rich turn into a brownlow medallist in one game.

IMHO it's much simpler... Collingwood just aren't in great form. I'd suspect they are adjusting to new coaching and doing new things with their game plan, that and the injury situation has led to new/unfamiliar line-ups.

Very interested to see if/when/by how much they improve, as the year wears on.
