The Collingwood Effect

I believe that no matter what form the opposition is in or where they are on the ladder prior to playing us, they always seem to play their best against us. I think that playing Collingwood and beating us is extra incentive to win.

Everyone loves to win against the Pies. We saw it last night in the Dogs game. Prior to that game, the Dogs were in horrible form. Then, all of a sudden they are playing like they belong in the 8. Yes I know we didn't play our best, but that is just as much a part of how good the Dogs played.

Whats everyone elses thoughts on this?

I agree with this. The lower sides get up for us because we are Collingwood.

Also Okay Players can look awsome against us at times. Remember when Jarrad Brennen Kicked 6 Goals against us

I remember a certain little Carlton creep who played the one and only game of his life against us and was basically never seen again.

But that is in a GF(That we shall not talk about) and Anyone would get up for a Granny

I agree to an extent.
The rest of the league know that we are weakened this season with Taz, Ball and Krak out of the team
If you take the best players from each line out of every team they are going to drop a few levels.
So they sniff blood when they come up against us this season.

Put those 3 back in the team and all of a sudden things look good.

Krak might be right before the finals also.

If we can get the team looking like this a few rounds before finals so they can gel then look the **** out everyone else:

Brown, Tarrant, Shaw
Maxwell, Reid, Toovey
Harry O, Clarke, Johnson
Beams, Swan, Pendles
Wellingham, Jolly, Thomas
Sidebottom, Cloke, Krakour

Blair, Goldsack, Dawes, Sub: Didak

:D

What about another one in beaumont who kicked 8 in the first half.
Teams always find another gear against us, watch brisbane next week Brown will kick 6 and black get it 40 times because they hate us and it's their grand final.
Like when ess fire up against carlton and geel against hawthorn, we have to cop that hate from all sides.

I agree with the OP to an extent, but not it total.

There are certain teams who do not lift against us, because to them we are just another team.

No matter what we think of our how big we are, or how hated we are, some clubs have other teams they hate more, and "get up" for more. Adelaide is a good example of this, they lift for their showdowns, and for some other matchups, but traditionally have been very poor against us. As has Sydney, so it obviously doesn't mean every team lifts against us.

It's more of a Victorian based thing, most Vic sides do lift when they play us compared to most other Victorian sides, of that I have no doubt.

You do make a Good Point and I don't get the Hatred from other Instate Clubs Except from Brisbane and Port and Teams Respond to That

another couple of reasons aside from the hate could be the bigger crowds and the fact we normally get prime time coverage so they know the footy world is watching.

I think that this point is easily illustrated over the last few weeks.

For Pies and Dons fans we know that the biggest game of the year is ANZAC day and for many years we know that the form leading in is somewhat irrelevant as the day brings forward form and effort perhaps not seen during the rest of the year.

Now go forward 10 days. The Dogs are playing one of their big Friday night matches. All of a sudden they are on the big stage... live nationally against the biggest and best opposition. For them this is their platform to deliver to their fans... this in a way is their ANZAC day. We are just getting over our big stage match and come up against a side that is playing theirs. To make it worst we get to play Geelong, Melbourne etc playing theirs soon too whilst we feel like this is just normal season matches.

It is part and parcel of being the biggest club and although it may not be ideal it also can help come the season end as our blokes are used to playing blockbuster type games.

Unless the Lions make finals, which is not looking likely their biggest match of the year will be against the Pies next weekend it has a bigger build up than any other match and they will be trying extra hard to win bookmark it.

Aside from local derbies all teams have their largest crowds against the Pies so yes I definitely think the OP,s premise is based on fact.

What about the falafel munchers? Or don't we care about them (yet)?

Friday night, I think, was Bulldogs only game on a Friday night. Friday nights are the big stage.

I think that game was more a case of Bulldogs wanting to show some ticker in front of a national audience then a game against us.

Almost always happens.

Watch Brisbane. Played like shit against the Bombers and even worse against Geelong. They'll come out and play like Brownlow medallists against us.

Guaranteed.

Brian Lake and Giansiracusa had done nothing for 2 seasons. Suddenly they both play like superstars, get f**ked.

I seriously lol'd because it's true and it's exactly what I think. :D

I believe we will defeat Brisbane, eventually, but just you watch how Brown & Black will seem unstoppable at times at the Gabba.

Yep, and the umps will give them an armchair ride and a half like they did in 2010 up at the Gabba when they beat us.

Black will amass 20 'handballs'.

I expect Jonathan Brown to suddenly play like he's 23 again.

It's going to frustrate the SHIT out of me. Especially when you know you can't do SHIT about it.

If my wife wasn't on maternity leave, I'd get her to organise a meeting with Nathan so I can warne him in advance.

Not to mention 2008 when the prick Vozzo gave them 3 free kicks in front of goal in the last qtr and we got beaten by a couple of points:mad:

Black is also one of the serial divers (along with Chapman) and handball-shovellers.
