I've been really impressed with the continuing evolution that is our forward line. We have added an ecclectic mix of pace and goal nous. The speed of Stephenson, Varcoe and WHE is worrying defenders and applying forward pressure in equal measures.

The move to rotate the resting midfielder forward be it Treloar, Sidebottom or De Goey is also causing match up issues just because all those guys are tough one-vs-one. It keeps our best players in the game longer and we are seeing the benefits.

That we've done this in the absence of Elliott and Fasolo is incredible.

Our key positions are still a work in progress but at least Reid and Cox offer a contest.

There's still room to improve undoubtedly but i'm enjoying watching the forward unit as it continues to evolve.

Agreed Quicky loving our mix ATM but Moore has to play forward for me when he comes back........on today's performance Reid makes way.

I sit behind the goals at the Punt Road end and watching the fear in the defenders eyes when Steele, De Goey, Treloar and even Jaidyn are in the goal square is a joy to watch.

Really glad Bucks started the game with only Reid forward today..........we have found the right mix we have to stick with it.

Two big forwards ONLY.

By the way kudos to the defenders today and on ballers another solid team performance.

Evolution?

"Evolution (noun)
2. the gradual development of something."

Edit: Just realised I mispelled evolution in the thread title hahaha

Yeah next year, pray to god we have Lynch.

Play only the two talls up forward, Lynch and Moore, with Moore having stints through the ruck.

Leaves us abit bare down back though.

Doesn’t Sidebottom find goals.
He just does.

I might have missed a decent seat in the bandwagons of a few of our emerging stars, but I have always commanded a front row spot in Sidey's career conveyance. He has taken his game to another level now. Love his smiling eyes.

Great observation.
Gone up a notch.

How similar is our forward line to the Tigers?
One KPP in each list.
Gun midfielders.
Small forwards dominating both lists.

No surprise Martin is their leading goal kicker. They obviously just try and breakeven in the midfield.

Days of an absolute dominant Key forward kicking 70+ goals is on its way out with Franklin and Kennedy

Amazing what happens to a fwd line when you move the ball quick.

Essendon were us yesterday, sideways kicking, slow, then an eventual turnover.

An additional similarity with the Tigers is Sam Lloyd struggling to get a game.

In 2016 Lloyd kicked 35 goals for the Tigers, second best for Tigers.

But in 2017 he barely got a game as Butler, Castagna, Rioli, Townsend all went past him.

Not dissimilar to Fasolo.

Josh Thomas, Aish, Stephenson, WHE and Varcoe all better options for us at the moment. If we going to fit in Elliott, the ‘obvious’ out is Crocker.

No additional obvious out to make way for Fas.

It will be interesting to see what we do with Moore.

He simply is a star, and when fit is in our team.

Initially positioned to play down back, but Schranberg has come in and is doing a great job.

The defensive group of Dunn, Howe, Scharenberg, Langdon, Crisp, Murray and Maynard are combining well. Adaptable enough to cover most forwards (no problems with Adelaide who are tallest group going) and providing great intercept marking and launching attacks.

Sure Moore could easily slot in instead of Schranberg or Langdon, but they both playing great footy at the moment.

Up forward, we plan on only playing two talls. Cox gives us the point of difference as he is a genuine second ruck option, and has shown he can fly for a mark. Reid a smarter leading forward, can provide good connection and been going ok without being great.

Moore is tall enough to play as a 2nd ruck, mobile enough to play the link role, can also play key forward.

So for mine the initial off-season plan of Moore down back should be tweaked, and he should come in for Reid or Cox as a forward/2nd ruck option. As he has ability to play both of Cox and Reid roles.

I would rather see Moore ahead of Reid mainly due to Reid's age and injury concerns, we cant be reliant on him. I also think Cox is a better FF/Ruck player than Moore could be based on height.

I'd stick with Moore in defence and simply reshuffle the backline a fraction, moving one of them up to a wing for example. Just because the defence is rock solid doesnt mean it cant be improved and made taller. Good problem to have....thats becoming a bit of a cliche....but cliches like that are a good problem to have!!!!

.
Disagree about Moore being a star. Hopefully he will become one in the future.

I reckon we'd be mad to bring Moore into our back six at the moment. We're blanketing and exploiting talls beautifully with our current mix. Also, as a defender, Moore has no runs on the board to suggest he'd outperform the blokes in the team.
Personally, I'd play him as a VFL forward for a week or two. Have him get his confidence up by ripping a game apart and then have him replace whoever is in lesser form out of Cox and Reid or whichever tall at either end is injured.

Reid is 28, turning 29 next week...nothing wrong with that.

We want to win games NOW.

But I tend to agree, that Moore playing Reid's role should improve us. Moore is quicker, more agile, just as good in the air and applies better defensive pressure.

Yes indeed.

I think the original planning had Moore playing instead of the Berg. But the Berg has been great, and I hadn't been impressed by Berg last year at AFL level.

The lack of height doesn't appear to be a problem as Howe and Berg are blanketing taller plays as required.
