We now have a situation where the West is saying that we've signed Naitanui until the end of 2011 and channel 7 have said we've signed him until the end of 2012.

I believe we give out 3 year rookie contracts, instead of the standard 2 years, so I'm going with channel 7 being correct but there's a pretty strong element of doubt.

I've heard 2011 reported everywhere else basically.
Probably a fair bet. Generally we sign them to a mandatory 2 year contract. Extending it beyond that now would be a Gold Coast avoider purely, in Naitanui's case anyway

Worsfold said they were always wanting a 3 year deal so I take it as only the extention to the standard 2 year deal and channel 7 would be wrong.

West Coast have received a boost in the lead-up to Sunday’s daunting assignment against St Kilda, with emerging centre half-forward Josh Kennedy agreeing to a new three-year contract.

The problem is that it's hard to know how long their rookie contracts are. i.e. who gets 3 years and who gets 2.

I'm going to leave Naitanui how I've got it and even if I'm wrong we'll clean it up in 3 or 4 years, when the time comes.

What we know for now is that Naitanui is going to be with us for a while and that's all that really matters.

Yeah...I suspect I'm outnumbered on this one but I need to keep things consistant with the rookie contracts, so, like I said before, if I'm wrong we'll fix it later when Naitanui's contract is in the news again.

It's flimsy info to say the least with rookie contracts.

The thing is, how do I know which rookies get 3 year deals and which ones get 2 year deals? The rookie information would be even more wonky if I started deciding which rookies got 3 years deal and which didn't.

All I know is that I read in the draft by Emma Quayle that we give out 3 year contracts to all draft picks, and I'm sticking with that until there's solid evidence to the contrary.

Certainly it proved to be the case for Mitch Brown and MacKenzie but was that a once off for a strong draft or is that just for early draft picks? I'll not know the answer to that for probably 18 months and until then we're all going to have to deal with "believed to have signed a... contract when drafted".

Having said all of that, if you have any info, please feel free to post it here or PM me. In the past Bigburger has been onto a contract before the media and it was a great help, which made me feel more comfortable about the accuracy of everything.

Hey Jimmy, what do you think will happen with Mark Seaby? Are Port interested in him as a mate suggested to me? Basically, hes out of contract, so we cant make a deal for him? Hate the thought of getting nothing for a 24yr old ruckman, thanks.

No, re-rookied at the end of 2007, elevated during the 2008 season and promoted permanently at the end of 2008.

I just wanted to let you know that Ryan Davis' contract is up at the end of this season. There's been a few articles lately that have mentioned it when discussing whether it's better to give Fletcher a farewell game or to let a younger out-of-contract player have a go. Here's one such article for reference.

2 things:

1. That article mentioned that there was up to 12 players uncontracted for 2010. I've only got 9.

I'd suggest that the other 3 are Masten, Notte and Scott Selwood. I.e. our 2007 draftees. Most likely they got 2 year rookie contracts and not 3, which also means that Eberts extension keeps him at the club until the end of 2011 not the end of 2012. I'll clear this up when more information surfaces.

Either way, however, I wouldn't worry too much about that because keeping all 3 would just be a formality.

2. I haven't got Davis on the list because he's on the rookie list.

All rookie listed players are in the same boat which goes like this:

You get your first year after being rookie listed...Obviously.
Then, if you're good enough you can get kept on the rookie list without any drafts for your second year.
Then, if your club wants you for a third year they have to re-draft you in the rookie draft. Usually this isn't hard to do because not a lot of clubs will poach a rookie listed player as they're usually not that good.
After a third year, a player has to get promoted or leave the club forever.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on rookie listed players.

Ryan Davis is aproaching the end of his 2nd year on the rookie list, so he'll either be promoted at the end of the year or we'll try and re-draft him in the rookie draft, but there's a small chance he'll arrange to go somewhere else before we can select him.

Also, just heard on channel 10 that Spangher, Schofield and Staker are all playing for contracts. I'm pretty certain Staker has a contract already!

My only correction is that you can have a fourth year on the rookie list as long as you're still young enough. Beau Wilkes spent four years on the rookie list (though he was promoted midway through his fourth year)

What's the max age to be on a rookie list? You have to be under 23 when the season starts?
